Ring, ring

In a post yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] medousamedea wrote: "...if those who worship false gods or idols, those who take the Lord's name in vain, those who don't keep the Sabbath holy, those who fail to honor their mother and father, those who murder, those who commit adultery, those who steal, those who lie and those who covet can all get married...then justify denying the privilege to me."

I don't have anything to add to that. I just liked it and wanted to...spread it around.

Last night was a wonderful dinner with [livejournal.com profile] starstraf and company. What a lovely surprise--Lawrence has another good BBQ place! The place that went into the old Bucky's Burgers (there on 9th, by The Merc) is quite tasty. I'm fairly picky about my BBQ (Arthur Bryant's = gross) and these ribs were good. Lots of meat, very tender, and thoroughly cooked without being dry at all. In fact, I ate most of mine without additional sauce. Mmmmm. Oh! And vinegar cole slaw. Bonus! [livejournal.com profile] starstraf, please remind me of the name? I've forgotten.

Before I forget again: One of my many purchases this year at faire was a pinky ring! Yes! Silver Dreamer has rings small enough to fit my pinkies. They even had some that were (get this) too small. The size 1 1/2 fits my right pinky. And it has a heart design! Adorable.

I want to start sewing myself a new fall wardrobe to match my new body. It's a good thing the weather didn't change quite as early as it threatened to. I'd have been out of luck for office-appropriate cool-weather clothing. Here's hoping I can continue to limp along with my cotton skirts and dresses for three more weeks. Tights, boots, and cardigans are my heroes.

A one and a half? that's TEENY. I can never find rings large enough at faire. I have nice big sausagy hands that nobody makes rings for. Waaaaa. Don't freak out if I stare at your teeny tiny hands, please.

Yep. I gots some wee little hands.

Silver Dreamer has honkin' huge rings, as well as baby ones. Josh (one of the booth guys) has big old sausage fingers, and he wears rings from the booth. Go check them out next time you're at faire. You'll have the added bonus of an opportunity to shop at Madam Red's Brothel's vendor-patron!

I'm not Star, but the name is Biemers. Good to know that Biemers is good BBQ! I live five blocks from the Merc and see it all the time, and was wondering if it was worth a try.

And 1 1/2? Good god. Teensy! My pinky is like a 4.5. D: My wedding ring's a 7.

Biemers! Thank you. Now that I've seen it in print, I'll remember.

My pinky is like a 4.5. D: My wedding ring's a 7.

My wedding ring finger is a 4.5. 4.25 in the winter or when I'm really cold. My hands are little, but strong!

It is Biemers, and I haven't tried it yet. It used to be at a Phillips 66 near my house.

Although, I should not judge a BBQ place by it location in a gas station. Oklahoma Joe's is the best ever and its original location is also a gas station.

We will have to give it a try.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You definitely should give it a try. And bonus: I didn't swell up like zeppelin afterwards (I only swelled to small balloon size), which means the sodium levels aren't too awful bad in their recipes.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha! then they don't brine their meat... that makes it Texas style, which also means that I'll LURV it. Thanks!
Vinegar cole slaw? as in, not sweet? oh heaven. My mum tells me that the reason malt vinegar is served in chip shops is to cut the grease in your system from the food. Worth keeping in mind when eating anything like that, eh?

Tights, boots and cardigans are HOT. I can't wait to start wearing my boots and tights. It's the bonus bit to this season.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The slaw is still sweet, but it's not creamy sweet, and has a bit of a bite.

Bring on the tights and boots!!! Yay!

I tried Biemers a couple of weeks ago and I also thought it was really good. They also had excellent onion rings.

Although I still think Vermont St BBQ is my fave for the Lawrence area.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it would be hard to beat Vermont Street's turkey leg, that's for sure.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm about to sink my teeth into some now. The cole slaw tastes good, but I wish it weren't diced. Small detail though. I hate creamy slaw, or even worse, creamy watery slaw, so Biemer's slaw is a blessing.

I tried it, and I wish I had the good experience that you did. Mac ran out and got me a pulled pork sandwich.

The portion was huge. There was no way that I could come close to wrapping my mouth around that sandwich. I don't think even your impressive mouth could do it.

There were a few bites that really needed to be in the burnt ends pile, but overall it was moist. The sauce was okay. It isn't the horribleness that is KC Masterpiece or Arther Bryant's Original, but it isn't in the wonderful category that I place Jack Stack and Oklahoma Joe's and the above average that I place Gates and Vermont. That's the end of the good about it though.

I agree that there is quite a bit less sodium in it, the downfall being that the meat was completely flavorless. There was only a few bites that I could faintly taste any smoke flavor. It should be all smoke flavor or no smoke flavor, but not semi-smoke flavor in a few bites of the meat.

The downfall of the BBQ sauce was that they only gave me about 1 Tbsp with my takeout. If the entire flavor of your meat depends on the sauce, then you need to have an appropriate meat-to-sauce ratio. They didn't even come close for the behemoth pile of meat they gave me.

I had to dig some Gates out of the fridge to even finish the meal.

I'll have to try the ribs before I write them off completely. If you hadn't given them the review you had, I would have written them off after my first try.

Suxxor! I only had the ribs.

The downfall of the BBQ sauce was that they only gave me about 1 Tbsp with my takeout.

Wow, that's really weird. [livejournal.com profile] starstraf came home with about a zillion containers of three (or four?) different sauces.

Sorry your meal was ickky.

There's a BBQ place where Bucky's used to be?? I am jealous. When we lived in Lawrence, I used to walk my then-small child over to the park and for a special treat, he'd get fries, or a soft-serve cone. I was often starving myself, but the Bucky burger? Nuh uh . . . . There really is not what you'd call BBQ in suburban PA. : P

See? You definitely need to return to Lawrence for more visits.

The ribs are definitely the best - the meat is good but not great. I asked for some of each sause, they gave me 2 of each type.
