Costume inspiration

It was sdemory who, with a few words, made me rethink (and completely redesign) my Steampunk costume for the ConQuesT masquerade in May. His exact words:

"One of my ongoing problems with steampunk (aside from the fact that we hates it forever) is that it's so very, very white, which runs counter to many of the stylistic threads running through the cultures from which it draws. Run counter to the "bustle... goggles... WIN!" crowd and you'll be golden."

And indeed, I was. Quite golden.

Now, with a few hints in a recent post and comment, sdemory has again come through for me in the Costume Inspiration department. I think I'm even going to use the concept (in a much more extreme and heavily-armed form) for the next ConQuesT masque, since I've been only lukewarmly interested in my other ideas.

I've even named it.

Mad Maxine: Beyond Eisenhowerdome.

Speaking of costumes, I've decided I'm going to go as an olympic torch this year (to "the olympics" themed party). Party is Saturday, I better get started!

How is your Halloween costume coming along? Did you ever figure out what to do? Ooooo! A torch sounds great! I can't wait to see what you come up with. I wish somebody around here was having a Halloween party on Saturday. I'm gonna be with my mom next weekend. *sigh*

We've started work at Tuesday sewing on a group steampunk project that fits the bill because of it (and a little alcohol, the fuel of crazy costume ideas).
