I feel pretty
During the summer, I don't often put on make-up for work. I sweat a lot (and I mean a lot), so any standard make-up I applied before walking up the hill to work would melt down my face. The sweat-resistant drag queen stuff I plaster on for Faire is absolutely not appropriate for the office. And during faire, I really don't feel much like getting made-up for work when I spend so much time heavily made-up on the weekends. Once faire is over, though, and the weather cools down, I enjoy putting on a basic face for the office.
I am amused at how many people (new grad students, usually, but occasionally it's the unobservant or forgetful faculty member) do a double-take and mention my make-up and how nice I look once I start wearing make-up to work again. The comments increased this year what with the new hairstyle. I've had at least three people a day each day this week mention how nice I look.
I tell them it's good to remind the department that I clean up nice and I could quit this job for that high-paying modeling career any day now if I so chose, so they'd better do their best to keep me happy.

I know I photograph better with make-up (everybody does), but I think I look fine bare-faced. Good thing, since I don't have the time or energy to be one of those people who can't leave the house without make-up.

Yeah, I wish I could wear colors like that more often. But it's like Performance or Clubbing. There's nowhere else to wear that shit.

Not unless we lived in NY or LA, for sure!
I feel bad that I haven't gotten tarted up in way too long. My make-up foo is getting weak ;)

Well, maybe it's a personal thing. I wouldn't get that tarted up for anything less than a performance or clubbing. I have seen girls wearing that much make-up to go to class. They're usually primping in the bathroom, blocking the sinks where I'm trying to wash my hands.
I want to ask them "Do you know where you are? You're in Wescoe, for godssake. You look like an idiot." I piled on the make-up to go to school when I was in high school, but it was the 80s, man.
Maybe that's why the 80s are having a revival (gods help us all). After the fashion horrors of Grunge and Courtney Love, we need some cosmetically inclined role models.
I vote for this guy (http://images.smarter.com/blogs/welfrey%20makeup.jpg).

And thank you.
