Wow. Just...wow.
We watched the election results at a neighbor's house last night. It was a good experience. Free booze, tasty cheese, cigarettes on the back porch, and hugs all around when it was over.
The neighbor husband's birthday is today, tomorrow--sometime very soon--so the wife had a nice cake that they cut and shared around, 10:30 or so. I couldn't have cake, so after watching people snarf on this Wheatfield's confection for a few minutes, I decided to indulge in one of the artisan chocolates on the table. I picked one that was described as "chocolate with lavender-infused caramel" and popped it into my mouth. At that moment, the whole room erupted in hoots. I turned around to the T.V. and saw that CNN was announcing the win.
I learned about the election of Barack Obama with my mouth full of chocolate.

Stop reading if you want to spend today on a 100% happy cloud. I totally understand. The following isn't meant to be pessimistic or cynical, but it might be a bit of a downer. That's cool. I won't feel slighted if you don't read it. This is mostly for my own memory and sense-of-self tracking.

I wrote this in a comment in a friend's post this morning and I thought I'd put it here, too:
I'm not a Democrat. I'm not a Republican. I'm not even a Liberal or Conservative (although I consider myself to be liberal-with-a-lower-case-L). I'm just me. And I voted for Obama. And I stood in shock and happiness when CNN announced the numbers that tipped it for the win. I was even, for a moment, hopeful.
We'll see how it goes from here. Because what I am is a realist.
