Good mood!
Even though I have to work today it's almost like vacation. Nobody's around, I can do what I need to get done without hardly any interruptions, and I can play my music pretty loud since there's nobody in either office across the hall (yet). The Associate Chair might be in today, but certainly not until after noon.
Queen sounds much better played loud.
Today I boxed up my old student and GTA files for transport over to the Library Archives (Any volunteers to take them over? Anyone? Bueller?). That's been on the back burner for ages, and I wanted to get it done before the move. *whew* Feels good. Four boxes worth of old student and GTA files since the last time I did this, two years ago. I boxed up files up to 2006. I hope they'll accept them. Technically they're not supposed to take files that are less than three years old. But 2009 is just around the corner! Four boxes of files. Geez, we graduate a lot of students in this department.
Over the weekend I cleaned and organized about 75% of the sewing room. I can now walk around the room without weaving around stuff. I can reach for objects without having to move the pieces of furniture (and piles of crap) that are sitting in front of them. I can carry a laundry basket of clothes to the washer without worrying if I'm going to knock something over or slip on a magazine as I teeter around the maze. It's wonderful.
Since I was doing a Big Clean of the sewing room, I took my Elna to a new sewing machine service center that's right by our house. It's in the shopping center in the southwest corner of 19th & Louisiana--the one with the Ace Hardware, near Pet World. The people there were so nice. I hope they do a good job with it--they certainly can't do any worse than Sew Easy did last time I took it there! I want to be able to refer them to my sewing friends (although I don't know if they service Bernina). I'll be sure to post my feelings about the tune up when I get the machine back. But oh, so nice! And a sweet old girl-doggie in the shop who wagged her tail when I walked in. They carry thread, zippers, bias tape, etc., so if I need something small like that I don't have to drive all the way out to Hancock's. Nice.
Whoa! The deli people from the downstairs cafeteria just brought up a whole tray full of cheeses, lunch meats, and breads for us since they're closing for the holiday break. Wow! They even rolled them up into pretty shapes to make them all presentational and shit.
UPDATE: Six and a half inches of mail today. Dude. Next Monday's gonna be ugly.
UPDATE 2: One of the (hot, young, adorable) F/O mover dudes agreed to take my files to archives over his break.
