DOA

All my stuff made the move up from the second floor, but my computer didn't survive it. Support Dude (thank gods it's a different one than last time) thought it might be the power supply when the tower started blowing smoke. HA. That was fun. But one new power supply later, it's still not booting up. Motherboard, perhaps? Alas, my computer is old enough that there are no extra motherboards lying around. We have an extra computer of this vintage that nobody is using anymore, so if worst comes to worst, we'll just swap hard drives and chuck the rest of my old system.

The process is slowed by the fact that the three part-time people who were supposed to move the computers didn't show up (other offices are moving today and tomorrow). So poor Support Dude has to move and set up the computer equipment for about ten offices today.

In the meantime, I'm borrowing a neighboring office's computer that doesn't have a split keyboard and my wrist is already killing me, so that's enough of this. TTFN.

You're not supposed to let the smoke escape, remember? All electronic things run on smoke (as in smoke and mirrors...); if it escapes, the electronic thing stops working.

And it was almost certainly the power supply, but it most likely took your motherboard with it before it died. Mobos don't like random voltage spikes. Hope you are able to get a working system soon.
