Couture

When I see a post from Stylecunt come up on my f-page, I usually scroll to the images and then go back to read the text. I don't want to be influenced by her opinion before I see the goods. We usually agree, but still. So when I saw the images on this post right here click it CLICK IT! I had a moment of serious fashion flutter. This stuff is ... well, it just is, people. There are no words. Once I'd recovered from the brilliance and beauty, I went back up to the top to check out the name of the designer. Oh, of course. Jean Paul Gaultier. I should have known.

Gaultier is the only designer out there about whom I can say that given the opportunity? I would wear his couture designs in a heartbeat. He is amazing. He's also the only haute couture designer I follow with any regularity. The rest of them produce architectural monstrosities that are designed to prop up egos and "artistic sensibilities." Gaultier, from what I've seen on the runways, cares about the shapes underneath his creations and designs for a body. Not a coathanger.

Look upon his fashions and despair, oh those of us who will never ever be able to afford them. Or have a reason to don them. Ah, Gaultier. How you lure me on and break my heart at the same time.

Or are too short to wear anything by any designer...

Although, I'm totally in awe of the umbrella hat a few posts back. Must have one.

Wow, those are indeed amazing. I love the combination of structure and floatiness.

I've always loved Gaultier too. I love the fourth one down especially, aside from the Triscuit on her head.

If I could afford them, I have plenty of reason to wear them. Huzzah for being in a burlesque troupe!

Now, I just might try to make a few pieces based on these....

I saw those come through a little while ago on Fabulon (http://www.planetfabulon.com/2009/01/gaultier-darlings.html) and melted. Particularly the one on the top of the Fabulon page (or, middle in the second to bottom row on your link) is delish.

I agree with everything you've said about Gaultier.

I love the red and black one (of course).

100% Yum.

Structured boobs plus gauzy floatyness plus crazy hats...what's not to love!?
