Back at my post

Well I'm back to work today and surprise! My desk looks much the same as it did when I left on Tuesday--yes, even down to the stack of unread graduate applications. The ones that were supposed to have been read while I was gone? So we could schedule a meeting for the end of this week? So we could send out acceptance or denial letters? Oh, those applications, say the members of the graduate committee, no, we didn't get around to reading them. If I had it in me, I would just stop caring about these poor kids and the success of the program and merely do the basic requirements of my job. But I know that would last about 5 minutes. So back to harrassing these profs to get off their asses and read the GODDAMN FILES ALREADY.

I did have a very nice get well card on my desk from one of the grad students. That was really sweet.

Also getting used to my newly upgraded computer. I'm going to have to set aside a day to reinstall lots of things: Photoshop, FrontPage, Acrobat, SSH, blah blah. But so far the standard things are running ok. Knock wood.

This morning I renewed my DL with kij. An Aquarian bonding thing. The pic looks good and maybe by the time my license expires (2010), I'll actually weigh what it says.

Pooch hasn't gone in to change his address on his licence yet - we have been in the house 4 years

Yes, back at work already--I mean, it's not a physically demanding job. Except I'm trying to keep my blood pressure from going through the roof at the moment. Don't tell anyone down there in LSS that I'm out for their blood right now.

Not gonna happen -- that's why you're so good at your job. Them thar others, they suck at this part of their jobs because (I'm guessing) it's the least-important part of it. Maybe they suck, but I doubt it. You do the right thing, you do well at it, and then students can get in and later graduate. If you stopped caring, all would collapse. Imagine any organization where the admins stopped caring... on second thought, don't.

Without admins, the world would screech to a shattered-glass halt. This is something I stress in my classes during the research portion: Keep your admin happy and you'll be happy; piss him or her off and you'll regret it forever.

Unfortunately: 1) LSS does not get this 2) I am not one of their admin staff.
