Cramp

This month's period is brutal. I didn't get to work until noon yesterday because of hideous menstrual cramps and a nasty backache. This morning, cramps woke me at 1:30 a.m. and kept me awake until just after 5:00. After an hour of lying in bed with a heating pad, I gave up on sleep and read for a couple hours. With the heating pad. At least with a book, my mind wasn't 100% on oh dear god the pain. Today I'm still achey and (of course) I'm tired like whoa.

I've already exceeded my 24-hour allowance of ibuprofen. Please don't recommend any prescription pain medication. I can't take any of it that I know of, and in my current intestinal situation, I'm not willing to try anything new.

Fasting news: I sort of Fast-Fived all week last week and I felt fine. I ate somewhat normally on the weekend, although much less than usual (only one sizable meal per day). On Monday I ate breakfast and was tired (and hungry!) all damn day. Tuesday I Fast-Fived and was fine during the day. I didn't keep dinner in my system very long, though, and had half a banana, cereal, and milk at 3:00 this morning. I'm a little hungry right now, but not terribly interested in eating.

I can't tell if my (recently unpleasant) G.I. issues are hormonally-related or are indicative of the Threelac system starting to work.

In a couple of hours, I am going to go home to drink.

UPDATE: Oh my god, this made me feel so much better for about a minute and a half.

From CuteOverload: "One of the standout sequences in the otherwise unnecessary sequels to The Matrix comes when Neo fights off an endless swarm of Agent Smiths. Well, make some popcorn, because you’re about to see that scene the way it was meant to be made–with puppies!"

I wish I had something fluffy to offer you. But perhaps you will find this one at least funny?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
AWESOME.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I found a fluffy. Check my now-updated post.

[identity profile] solan-t.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for fluffy! I can't wait to get home so I can watch that!

because of your penis comment, this icon looks like a penis with a mouth. And it even has hands touching it.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
AH HA HA HA!!!! You are so right!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-05-10 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Whew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that.

Ugh, sorry to hear about this so long after the fact... I realized I missed quite a bit while I was um.. head-injured.

Hope the weekend brought you happier moments.

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no fair. No fair at all. Hope you're feeling better soon, sweetie.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Not fair, no.

But.

I would rather bleed once a month than have a penis my whole life.

I'm with ya.

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Not when it's so easy to borrow one, complete with amazing evolutionary semen-displacing powers, at 'most any time.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's easy enough to purchase one without the semen-displacing powers. So most of the time, it's pretty much a win-win situation.

AMEN...AND AMEN.

HEY!!!

[identity profile] lucifershalo.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me tell you something, missy...

...

...

...

ok nevermind....

but I can still stand up and pee...for accuracy!!! ;P

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
So Adam and Eve are in the garden and God's handing out abilities.

"OK, so who wants to pee standing up?" asks God.

Adam jumps up and down waving his hands. "Me! Me! I wanna pee standing up!"

"Alright," says God, checking a box on his list. "Now, let's see. Hm. Eve, looks like you're stuck with multiple orgasms."

Oh, you have my total sympathy!

My favorite remedy is taking an iron supplement that contains raspberry leaf. Both help, but the combo seems to be the magic trick for relief. The Merc has it, I don't recall the brand name at the moment.

Not sure it would help you- but it is an inexpensive thing to try.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you take this daily, or just around the time of your period? I already take a daily iron supplement, so I'm wondering if I should just switch it out totally for this one, or try just taking it the week before and during my period.

Thanks for the info!

[identity profile] radcliffe.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like to say that I take it daily, but I so totally don't remember. I take it when I am PMSing, and I will take it as a remedy when cramping. I can tell directly when it is what my body needs- I have had cramps go away/lessen in 30 minutes. I will take 1-3 a day, at about the same intervals as I would take a pain reliever.

This might work for me because I know I have iron issues. I have never been diagnosed as anemic, but just how quickly iron help the pain? My cravings for meat that I find strange and uncontrollable, that are monthly? Yeah, iron. Raspberry leaf is a tried and true period relief and has been shown to improve the efficacy of iron supplements.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I have had cramps go away/lessen in 30 minutes

Well, that's certainly going to sell the product to me. I'll be going to the Merc today.

Thank you so much. Seriously. Wow.

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
As a "uterine toner" kind of herb, raspberry leaf can help ease incidence of cramping as a preventive (taken every day) and also as an intervention supplement. It also makes a very yummy tea, whether you're buying the "cramp relief" specialty formulation or not.

[identity profile] radcliffe.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, what she said!

I just love that it is sold in combination with the iron. There is just one brand I have seen with it- Now? So yeah, it is a good time. I LOVE finding home remedy type products that work so well!

Tell us if it works for you? :>

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely!!!

[identity profile] annamatic.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Raspberry leaf tea is awesome. It helped me so much during my pregnancy with uterine spasms/Braxton-Hicks contractions, and I still drink it now for cramps. It's really mellow.

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
This thread has cheered me up immensely...and I wasn't even having a bad day!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
The Matrix-Puppies certainly helped.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Looking forward to puppies when I get home LATE tonight.

Feel better!

I'm on day 3 of my "pre-cleanse", so start fasting tomorrow. Also, my period is due any day now (I take my pills with a Monday start so my period usually comes on Wednesday, though I don't feel any sign of it thus far today!) -- I figured I would get all the crap-feeling out of the way at once!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're doing the cleanse on your period? You are fucking hard core, sister.

[identity profile] geekmom.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I usually take the advil with tylenol. I've been told by doctors that it's ok to take them both at once so long as you don't exceed the recommended dose on either. They work via different mechanisms, so they don't conflict.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
I would rather bleed once a month than have a penis my whole life.

That made me laugh out loud. And I agree. It just seems like a penis would get in the way, flopping around down there.

The reason I have been on birth control pills forever is because I used to get cramps so bad, I'd throw up. My freshman year in college, I passed out in the bathroom, and as I was passing out, hit my head on the sink, and then fell onto the floor and hit my head again. Fun times. The pill took away all of that!

If you like Fast Five, you may then like JUDDDD (Johnson Up Day Down Day Diet, aka The Alternate Day Diet). I did JUDDDD for over a year and Fast Five for about 5 months. I'm still doing a modified version of JUDDDD and swear by it. Had to modify it (ie, I was eating 100-300 on down days but now eat about 700 or so on down days) due to my intense gym workouts, and less on my up days (was literally eating a hell of a lot)...it really has made me feel great, full of energy and never get sick other than allergies, but even those have subsided!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh! I'll look into it. The minimal calorie a day thing sounds ideal since I do like to have a bit of milk or cream in my morning coffee but if that's all I have, I don't get hungry. Thanks for the tip! I'll google it today.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
This morning I did a bit of sniffing around on that Up Day Down Day schedule and it looks great. I'm going to start it. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

[identity profile] razorart.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome!! Glad to recommend the diet. Let me know how it works for you :)
