Journey
On Monday, John Scalzi posted an article that referenced Journey. It made me remember a conversation I had with
_luaineach several months ago about the general hotness of Steve Perry.
As a teen, I was "eh" about him. Stringy hair, not my type of music. But now, all grown up with more eclectic tastes and significantly more experience, I agree the man is made of Hot Sex. Just look at that nose, people. Ngngnnng. And, of course, there are these jeans. *cough* The androgynous effect in that particular photo increases his sexiness by, like, a thousand IMO.
And yeah, he could out-sing nearly anyone else of that era. In the early 80s you couldn't fake that shit with Autotune in a live performance. Check it:
Did I mention the jeans? Dear god, those jeans.
Go browse YouTube and comment with your favorite Journey video/song. Oh don't even pretend you're above that. We all know better.

Journey was my first "big" concert I saw at Kemper when I was 14. We had to recruit someone's mom to take us! And yes, he could hit those notes live!

My fourteen-year-old self couldn't have cared less, but my person-of-today is seething with envy. Lucky you!!!

Actually, you would have been 11 at the time. That is way too early to care. And now that you mention it, I probably liked him BECAUSE he was a little girly...

And yeah, you were totally cooler than I was. My first concert was Huey Lewis and the News. My mom wanted to go, so we packed up some friends and drove the four hours to K.C. And our car got burgled during the show.

Re: *I* love the lovin' things!
Thank you so much for this. I am ashamed, ashamed, that I still haven't purchased a Journey CD for the home collection. I mean, god, that post was well over ... a year ago? Holey schamoley.

But as much as I like Journey, SP said something once that really creeped me out. In an interview, asked about what type of music he favored, he said "My own." (or thereabouts) With all the music available in the world, he said it was most enjoyable to sit at home with his rock star stereo system and listen to himself sing. It implied... I dunno TOO much ego.

*and even his was pretty considerable

My favorite Steve Perry song is not actually a Journey song but one of his solo ones, "Oh Sherrie".

My shame is in liking the Cheesier than cheese in a can ballad. :)
