Some ~~fucking twat~~ unobservant driver pulled in front of

mckitterick yesterday afternoon while he was driving his scooter down the 15th street hill past the dorms. That, combined with bad pavement, resulted in the Aprilia going down. Luckily, he could walk/limp away from the accident, so it's not nearly as bad as it could have been. He's got a bit of road rash on a leg and an arm, and his left acromio-clavicular joint is pretty messed up.

He'll be okay, though. In, um...you know, a few weeks. The Aprilia, maybe not. From what I hear, I don't think it's going to be breaking land speed records anytime soon.

We got home from LMH, ate Pyramid Pizza, and watched Shaun of the Dead.

The guy at Pyramid made us a super awesome pizza. I tipped when I ordered, instead of waiting until the order was ready and I think he gave us extra cheese. =)

He's had that scooter for longer than he's ever had any other vehicle. Poor guy. Poor scooter!

So glad he's (mostly) okay! Lawrence is such a scary place for pedestrians/cyclists/scooters, and basically anyone who isn't encased in an SUV...

You know, I didn't ask if it was an SUV (again) this time. I just assumed it was. Some college kid in daddy's SUV. Like last time. And the time before.

I'm glad it wasn't more doomful than that. Hope healing and repairs are smooth and uncomplicated. (gentle hugs)

Well damn. Glad I'm not hearing taps played for himself and the scooter, although sounds like the scooter took the bullet for his 'ole buddy. Hope the extra cheese hastened the healing.

The Aprilia really did, as you say, take the bullet on this one. I hope he can get it fixed up and running again when he is recuperated himself.

Thanks. I'm pretty much against more laws. But I do wish there were harsher penalties for poor drivers.

Yoinks. Any two-wheeled vehicle vs. four-wheeled vehicle accident you can limp away from is a good one. Or, rather, not as bad as it could have been.

Yep. Could've been a lot worse. Thank god one of the people involved is A Very Good Driver.

Wow! I don't need to tell you that he's actually rather lucky. Did the other driver even know he/she took out a scooter? I think this is why I am now a bit afraid to go around town on 2 wheels.

Oh, yeah, she knew. She knew because there were apparently eighty bazillion high school girls at a summer camp walking up the hill to their dorm who all started screaming and pulling out cell phones to call the cops.

Never thought I'd be grateful for screaming high school girls and their cell phones, but there you go.

@#$$%@# stupid student drivers!!! I'm so glad his injuries aren't worse, though I hope the ones he has sustained heal quickly. I'm so sorry, and best wishes for swift healing (for him and the Aprilia)!

Ugh... I hate to hear that. I'm glad it wasn't that bad. A friend of mine took a spill last week coming down the mountain on his bike at about 30mph and *really* tore himself up. Torn rotator cuff, lacerated tendon in his knee, road rash to the bone in some places, and merely severe in plenty of others... It really could have been a LOT worse.

I agree with your first assessment... "unobservant driver" just doesn't cut it.

I hope he has time to rest and mend. It's horrible to be out of commission, and I am so sorry he got hit.

graydown during dinner at Ingredient tonight - had been too busy for LJ & Facebook for a couple of days and so hadn't heard until then. So glad he's relatively okay! Then, who should walk by but the poor guy himself, in a cast! Trying to be cheerful but likely in pain in spite of the drugs..... How's the fancy new helmet, did it help?
