Reminder
It's always good to be reminded that my problems are mostly small and my complaints usually trivial.
I discovered today that one of my favorite and most unusual graduate students--a West Point graduate, career army guy, friendly and charming, and the only person I know personally who has read more George Orwell than me--has been stationed in Kuwait since April. His bio to our annual alumni update reads:
T.F.V. reported to the Third US Army/Army Central Command in April 2009, where he serves as the commanding general's speechwriter and as the deputy executive officer of the operational command post in Kuwait. The military abbreviation for Kuwait is, appropriately enough, "KU." He misses his wife, his sons, and Kansas (among many other things). He may be reached at *email address removed*.
This is the guy who sent me a coffee mug from NORAD when he was stationed at the Cheyenne Mountain complex and offered me a tour of the facility anytime I wanted to come visit him. I never made it.
Take care of yourself over there, T. I think about you every time I pour myself a cup of coffee.

I feel stupid for not taking him up on the offer to visit. I mean come on--NORAD (http://www.norad.mil/)! The coffee cup is awesome, though.
