Hair

My hair, in full sun, before henna or indigo:
7-29

My hair, indoors, after two rounds of indigo and one round of henna:
8-31

I ordered some more henna and some pure indigo this week. This is higher quality stuff with a stronger color deposit and reportedly good results on gray/white hair. I hope to do another treatment with those two products next week, using some of the specialized mixes detailed on the website.

Notes so far: After less than a week, the first Light Mountain henna/indigo treatment was fading. I applied a second treatment of the same and it started to fade to a weird brownish purple within the week. I applied a large amount of Light Mountain, this time in Burgundy, in hopes that the higher henna content would take. Less than a week later, it's fading to orange.

A million thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy for her invaluable help and patience with the applications. Putting this stuff on is no fun and it stinks like a nasty combination of moldy hay and canned spinach.

Smelled a whole lot better when you put the ginger and such in! Hair time with you is FUN! No bugs next time though! I'm throwing down trash bags or newspapers and we're doing it indoors!

Awesome. And if this weather keeps up, we'd freeze our bunnies off outside, anyway!

Please may it keep up!

Nice!

That really looks like it was worth the effort.

Thank you! It certainly matches my wig a lot better. =D

It always seems most things that women (well, I suppose humans in general) do in pursuit of beauty either involve pain or some other sort of misery?

Here's hoping you find a combination that works for you.

I used to do just henna on my hair, and if you put in a little bit of paprika or tumeric, it tames the smell a bit. Paprika also adds a bit more of a red tone though, so if you're going for a straight black color, don't use it. TUmeric just adds a little bit of gloss, with no color boost.

In my experience, turmeric adds a more orange/coppery tone, but it's only noticeable on lighter hair. I had good luck with ginger toning down the stench last time, but I'm super sensitive to smells.

A paprika/turmeric/ginger blend did great things for [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy's color.

Let me know any other henna tips you've got! Especially any that might ease application.

The henna looks excellent, but if I say so myself, you grey rather gracefully.

Thanks!

I'm only dealing with this so I match the damn wig for Renaissance Festival. I've come to terms with the gray at this point.

I really like the texture it's giving me, though. It softens the curls to nice waves. It's still nice and fluffy but doesn't frizz in humidity. I might keep doing it just for that!

EWWW! That sounds very nasty. I would think the ginger would definitely help that!

Yeah! Mmmm tasty! Don'tcha wanna join us sometime?

Looks good. I used to try cinnamon sometimes. I also made the mix soupy so I could squirt it out of a plastic ketchup bottle. And the I would wrap the hair in plastic and use my old hair dryer that used a plastic cap tp keep it hot for an hour. I did not have much of a fading problem.

Oooo. I'll try the cinnamon. Thanks!

Love the ketchup bottle idea.

...because you're worth it

Are you too good for L'Oreal? If it's good enough for Heather Locklear, it's good enough for me. :P

I wish. I'm horrifically allergic to hair dye of all sorts.

I have this sort of reaction (http://www.hennaforhair.com/ppd/ppdreaction/). Seriously. That is exactly what happened to me the last time I used black hair dye, only mine was a little worse. My eyes were swollen shut for nearly 48 hours.

I tried a spot test with brown dye recently, and got a nasty chemical burn on my arm that looked like someone snuffed out a cigar on my inner arm.

No hair dye for me. Ever.

Yikes! That is unreal!
