October
W.T.F. How did we get to October already? I remember thinking this about August, too. Time really does speed up as one ages.
I know I say this every year, but oooo! I have such plans for a winter wardrobe. I am especially inspired by the jacket/blouse combo in this photo. I would have thought the blouse sleeves hanging out well below the jacket cuff would look weird, but the bold print blouse contrasted with the plain jacket makes it work. I have several lovely 3/4 sleeve jacket patterns that I don't use because my arms get cold and most of the time the silhouette of a 3/4 sleeve jacket doesn't look good when the sleeves are lengthened to the wrist. This is a lovely solution to the problem, don't you think? I'm tired of wearing sweaters-sweaters-sweaters all the time all winter. A couple wool jackets with the 3/4 sleeve treatment, and maybe a few pinwale corduroy blouses? Perfect alternative. Hancock Fabrics has some surprisingly nice pinwale prints, too.
So now we've covered the fashion portion of this post, let's move to the meatier bits, eh? Please check out this lovely article, link courtesy of
adammaker, on an atheist's response to someone who thinks atheists should try to be nice for a change. For those of you who don't have the time to read the whole article (which is really a shame, because it is quite worth your time), I can basically sum it up for the author. He says: Piss Off. But he says it really, really well.
Back to fashion. Sort of. Briefly. May I tell you how annoyed I am that I wore my "cold weather" bellydance costume last weekend and nearly roasted? Now this weekend I'm looking at a high of, what, 58 degrees this Saturday? Lovely. I'm going to make another choli top tonight. Here's hoping Hancock's has black panne velvet in stock--that's always dicey this time of year. Or I could make one out of fabric I already have that might match the green and copper costume. Hmmmm. Well, I need a black choli, anyway. Might as well make them while I still have the serger of great awesomeness from the even awesome-er
solan_t who deserves another great big shout-out for letting me keep it for so long. Yay!
Fetish is doing kind of eh on the insulin. She doesn't mind the shots at all, but she's not eating much. After a massive low blood sugar scare on Sunday I have her down to one unit of insulin per injection, and I'm not giving them unless I feel she's eaten enough that day. That means no morning shot, usually. Tomorrow morning I take her in for a quick blood test to see how she's doing. Here's hoping she eats enough for breakfast that I can give her a shot before I take her in. Bleh. Who ever thought that my Fetish kitten would stop being a greedy piggy at mealtime?

In a perfect world, I would be able to leave work at noon, go to India Palace for lunch, and then go home for an afternoon of leisurely sewing.
Oh, new icon, apropos of nothing 'cept it's new and I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Go, Hothead!

Did they give you a little blood glucose meter to check her?
I've also read that some cats balance out and quit needing insulin once they're off the dry foods.
Interesting.

Fashion - That 1958 outfit is very cute. I just spent the earlier part of the afternoon paging through issues of the New Yorker from 1937. I am in a serious vintage sewing frame of mind right this minute. *sigh*

Wish I had some 30s patterns to give you. That's a gorgeous style era.
