Cured

Fetish's glucose levels came back a-okay this morning. This was after breakfast but no shot. The vet says this means she doesn't need insulin shots, just kept on the canned food (which she is finally eating regularly with enthusiasm). Yay! He said diabetic symptoms can come back, so I need to keep an eye out, but for now, tra-la-la, no more daily injections. That's the good.

Poor [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy spent hours doing the henna indigo treatment on my hair last night and it didn't take at all. This morning when I looked, the indigo stain was non-existent, but at least I could see reddish roots. In the fluorescent light of the Wescoe bathrooms, though, I can see white roots. So boo, hiss. It's a good thing there's only two more weekends because I am so not going through that any more. Not worth it. It looks gorgeous and makes my hair feel wonderful (when it actually, you know, works), but the cost, the time, the tedium and the smell far outweigh the pretty.

My throat hurts again. My back is still achey. I am way tired. I need a vacation.

You'll have to send me the link you're buying from cause it works great on me and I'm going to keep doing the henna I think.

WHY didn't it stick, stupid indigo, the henna works great. What do you think of the red in your dark hair?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you think of the red in your dark hair?

If it was dark red I might be okay, but this sort of brassy orange is not.

I just finished an email to the info@mehandi folks and I hope to hear from them soon. I'm happy to keep doing your hair, and if they have any suggestions on how to better apply the indigo, I'll let you know.

Yay, I love our hair nights! (I don't think I'll need to do mine every 2 weeks though. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
According to my photo log, our last henna date was 9/10. So that's not quite a month, but certainly not two weeks!

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
After this time, I'll see how long I can go before doing it again. Love the oil idea too.

Can't believe how much my hair grew in less than a month!

[identity profile] curieuse.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
What great news for Fetish and for you! :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Quite a relief! Hello, weekend trips away from home!

[identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray for the Fetish news....

What's going in the Henna-indigo mix?
are you adding any oil?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
We put in the henna and indigo separately. I did add just a touch of amber oil to help with the smell. But it was just two drops in probably three to four cups of paste. I'm wondering if it was the new shampoo bar (that I bought from the same people who sold me the henna). I washed my hair with it the day before. Perhaps it's got too many emollients?

[identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
When I'm laying down the henna for myself or others I add something like a tablespoon to a 1/4th of a cup of olive oil to make sure the dye can sneak past the natural hair oils or emollient shampoo residue.

Also, gives you pretty hair from 'hot oil treatment' effect.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Maybe I'll try that, if nothing else, on [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy next time.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
We are also thrilled by your Fetish news!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Me, too!

[identity profile] the-themiscyran.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh good! Hooray for kitty recovery!

Sorry to hear about the henna and the not feeling well.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed!

Yeah, the henna fail really blows. Gah.

[identity profile] nataliesee.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray for Fetish!

And get thee some EmergenC. I started feeling a throat ache last night, too. I asked for some EmergenC and Tess set the kitchen on fire. So...don't ask her for it. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Poo. I used the last of my Emergen-C a couple weekends ago. Don't wanna go to the grocery store! Too much else to do! Do you think a hot toddy would work just as well?

[identity profile] nataliesee.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you think a hot toddy would work just as well?

With real lemon juice, a toddy will be better!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I just remembered I used all my lemon juice to make the fucking henna. Goddamnit. =b

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Shall I bring you a couple when I come by? I think I have some in the cupboard.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. That'd be super!!!! Thank you!

[identity profile] indigodreamer.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay Fetish-kitty! That is such great news! :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I'm thrilled!

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
So very glad to hear that Fetish is doing better!

So very sorry to hear that the henna didn't take...boo!

D.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, and indeed boo on the dumb goosepoop.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_mac_/ 2009-10-06 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray for curing diabetes! I'm sure Fetish appreciates it very much.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope she returns to normal behavior soon. It'll be wonderful to have my Good Kitty back!

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's great news about Fetish, hooray! Now maybe she'll stop pooping in inappropriate places (dry - probably from yesterday). I suspect her litter box smelled wrong to her.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I just cleaned them both last night!!! Argh!

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That would explain it, then: She poo'd when it was smelly.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I cleaned them Friday, too! WTF, cat can't go two days without her box being clean? I'm going back to the old way of dealing with her litterboxes. This new method is not working.

[identity profile] theoneinblue.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
So glad for you and Fetish that her health is improving! Now, if we could somehow tweak your achiness and make it better...

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes!

I think I'll feel a lot better when 1) KCRF is over, and 2) We have a new mattress.

[identity profile] royal-spice.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! Go-go kitty pancreas!

Now, about this henna--really? I'd be pissed too if I sat through all that mess and got nothin' but orange roots to show for it. I second the idea that using some oil may help. I have to say though--I tried some henna on the white tip of my dog's tail (don't laugh), and left it for 24 hours, and it just turned it a little orange. Maybe henna is not optimal for white hair--it's structurally different, you know?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's common for henna to color white hairs bozo orange. But the indigo usually darkens it. And I've got very little bozo orange coverage, really. I had a long exchange with the henna help person on email yesterday and I have several tips to try when my rush order arrives Thursday. =D

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I'm glad the cat backed off being diabetic. You have a hard time getting a cat sitter if shots are part of the care.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm very lucky to have a couple friends with cat-injection experience here in Lawrence, but yeah. I just hate asking someone to have to come by at least once a day. Bleh.
