Needling

My acupuncture appointment went...fine. I guess. I didn't have any expectations, and I'm not sure what I should be feeling now, if anything. She said she could feel the cold of my head cold in my pulse. She put two needles in my face to help with that, in addition to the needles targeting the G.I. issues. She was of the opinion that I might have parasites, but seeing as I have a pretty solid diagnosis from KU Med regarding the bacterial overgrowth, I'm disinclined to agree with her. I'm debating if it's worth it for me to ask my PCP to check for that since I really don't want to have to deal with submitting a stool sample. Gross. She also recommended I start an elimination diet as soon as KCRF is over.

No sugar
No dairy
No wheat
No fruit (like grapes, apples, bananas, etc. "Vegetable" fruits are okay)
No alcohol

I'm fine with everything except the nixing of alcohol. Boo, hiss. She said that allowing myself one day off the diet a week is fine, though, so at least I can still have a couple glasses of wine one day a week. I've gotta give up dairy, too, which will be annoying but not as annoying as the lack of my daily drink. Oh well. I'm going to start cutting out some things now. Sort of gradually work my way into the program. Perhaps then I won't be so cranky. So as soon as I finish this container of yogurt for lunch today, I'm off cow products. The wheat I was planning to quit anyway. Since I haven't had time to cook, I've been making sammiches for lunches and nearly every dinner. As a result, my hands are starting to break out in hives. So no more wheat for me, and that's fine. After faire, I'll cut the fruit, sugar (what little I eat now, mostly just honey in my tea) and booze.

So basically, I'll be eating healthfully again. Yay?

I'm also supposed to pick up a bottle of pro-biotics from Ethical Nutrients. Anyone heard of this company? Supposedly they carry them at the Merc. Hope they aren't too pricey. My last experience with a pro-biotic was a big old Fail. Not that they did harm, they just didn't do anything

EDIT: I should note that last night I was full of energy and pep. Got more sewing done than I expected I would. Today, though, especially in the past twenty minutes, I feel like I've been hit with a Tired Bat. E-x-h-a-u-s-t-e-d.

So what do you get to eat? Meat? Veggies? That's IT? :P

Meat? Veggies? That's IT? :P

Hey, that's all I ate for a period of a month or two earlier this year. It's totally do-able. A little boring, but do-able.

Whoa. Good thing tomatoes are out of season now!

I think the thing that would bug me the most about that list is the alcohol... I like my beer & wine. The rest? Yeah, I can take it or leave it. I hope it will help you feel better...

When is KCRF over? I think this Sunday is our last chance to go out again, but I'm not sure we'll make it.
Hugs,
y

Yep. That's gonna be the hardest for me, too.

Last weekend of KCRF is October 17/18!

That sounds a lot like the elimination diet. I hope it works!

Ah, I'll be thinking of you that weekend!
I know you want it to be over... hehe.

I know you want it to be over

Dear gods, yes. Please. Ngggg.

I think that's why she called it an elimination diet, babe. :p

um..

[identity profile] wyckedgood.livejournal.com 2009-10-08 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok whats left to eat in that diet?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-10-08 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Meat and vegetables. Basically, what we were eating when we evolved into our current state as hoo-man beans. It'll be fine. I've eaten like that before and done well. It gets a little boring, but I don't have to do it forever.

Thats..

[identity profile] wyckedgood.livejournal.com 2009-10-08 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Kinda what I thought goodness. Go you!

Man, that sounds like some hokey-pokey new-age shit there.

In Korea I had very good experiences with acupuncture. However, it wasn't a hippie acupuncturist I saw but rather an actual doctor.

I have such resistance to trying "natural"/alternative healing methods, but when the modern medicine gives me a total fail, it is time to move on to something outside my comfort zone. At this point, anything is better than taking 1,000mg of ciprofloxacin () a day for thirty days and having it do zilch to ease my symptoms.

Seriously, fuck a bunch of that.

This acupuncturist was recommended to me by my (admittedly) hippie woo-woo chiropractor who nevertheless cured my allergies. So it's at least worth a try.

who are you going to for acupuncture?

Hey, they sell dewormers at the grocery store in the pet section. I just had to get some for Ruby . . .It's supposed to be like a tasty treat!

Some chick at Southwind Collective. I can't remember her name, but she's not the one pictured on the website. She's the new girl.

Also: EW.

Oh, if your chiropractor recommended her, I know who it is. My ex-boyfriend's ex-girlfriend--they both practice chinese medicine, and they are both the best in town. So you are in good hands.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, if she's new, then it's not Carolyn (who's pictured on the site).
