Many things before the mail arrives.
Today's Sinfest is awesome. These are some words to live by.

The threat of more snow tomorrow does not thrill me. I mean, really? More?
I'm not going out for New Year's Eve. I'm worn out/annoyed/tired from being sick and I don't want to lose a day of my three-day weekend to exhaustion and hangover like last year, when I had to stumble through the day on less than three hours of sleep thanks to my fantastic morning body clock. I already lost one three-day weekend this month, and I don't care to have a repeat so soon.
mckitterick and I are going to have a low-key evening at home. We'll party next year.
Watching Farscape with
mckitterick is giving me no small inspiration to get my arms and shoulders back in shape. I haven't done any resistance training in months. Rawr!
*flap*flap*flap*
On the advice of my chiro-allergist, I'm going wheat and sugar free for a month. I've had intermittent sinus problems and hives since November. Even if the physical irritations weren't an issue, it's probably a good idea, and coincides with my inclination to exercise again. I'm tired of my wrists being all itchy and covered in scabby bumps.
I'm feeling restless about my current music collection. I'll take suggestions for things to try. I'm pretty open-minded (open-eared?) about musical genres. My CDs range from Abba to ZZ Top. But there are a few styles I just can't stand. Some of those are: acoustic-based rock (guy/girl with guitar, singing soulfully about the meaning of life), modern Nashville country, drone/noise. I'm not saying those styles are bad (well, except for that modern country shit), I just don't like 'em. I've tried. Not my thing. Most of my 2009 musical discoveries (BitterSweet, Shiny Toy Guns, Lady Gaga) have come from friend recommendations, so bring 'em on.
Looking ahead to 2010 events, I realized time is running out for early registration for ConQuesT 41. I'll most likely wind up working the early-morning con suite shift (see mention of nasty evil body clock, above), but just in case I don't get to take advantage of the staff rate, I'm going to go ahead and register for the ultra-low discount rate.
The website says the theme is "Steampunk and Evil Geniuses." I already did the Steampunk think a couple years ago, and they're a little late to the game on that one, anyway. But Evil Geniuses are always in style, so I'll be pondering a way to incorporate that into the 1111101001 Arabian Nights costume for the masquerade competition.
mckitterick has made a few (quiet) noises about being included for a costume option, so I've got that angle to consider, too.
Things I want do to more often in 2010:
Work in my visual journal
Sew clothes that are funky and beautiful
Learn how to use my new serger
Be more disciplined in my exercising
Set aside more time for
mckitterick
Go on day trips/mini vacations to local areas of interest
Dance of any sort--belly dance, club dance, ballroom dance
And dear god, it's 10:00. Where is the mail?

Hawksley Workman ... er, Canadian Alt Rock, I guess. He's hit and miss because he keeps experimenting and he has some unconventional recording methods. I'm fond of his Lover/Fighter, Los Manlicious, and (Last Night We Were) The Delicious Wolves albums. He can't be judged on a single song because he's crazy.
Gotta run... I'll recommend a few more when I get back.

There goes 90% of my music collection. Actually, a friend sent me some crazy foreign stuff. I have the next 3 days off (Can I get an Amen!?!)so I will attempt putting together a mix CD of stuff I don't think you will hate. I will try to keep of all the meaning of life hippies out of it. (but it will be hard)

Our to-do's look very similar. I want more Art in my life, both created by me and around me.
As for music, I'm woefully behind in finding anything new. Kelley Hunt (http://kelleyhunt.com/)has a fourth CD out that I don't have, but I'm just hoping that please, pleasePlEASE don't let her have slid into Inspirational
folkcrap songs.I'll throw myself off a cliff if she has, so I'll wait til her show to decide if I'm buying it.

I found her back when Paul told me "you know, you look a lot like this actress on a television show I just started watching..."

Another alternate Canadian rocker that I like is David Usher. His newer stuff isn't so much to my taste but I really like his older stuff. The less sense his lyrics make the better the song is IMO. He used to be the singer/songwriter for Moist (Rock, and their lyrics often make no sense at all). Forestfire is probably my favourite song. Black black heart, Ugly is Beautiful are good ones and Draco likes St. Lawrence River (which I believe is about a murder).
The last I'll toss at you is Seabound which I'm completely obsessed with. German psych pop/electronica? Love the singer's voice (singer/song writer is also a psych Prof). The lyrics mainly focus on the mind. Tends toward layered and complex.

It's a lot more emotionally stressful, sitting through episodes, knowing what's coming. After we're done, it's going to be helpful to watch the special features and watch a couple episodes with commentary on--those little things that help remind me it's just a television show.
I still have some of my "Save Farscape" paraphernalia. *sigh*

Ahhhhhh! Must Find This!!!!
I like mostly-nonsensical lyrics, too. Duran Duran still ranks in my top three favorite bands evar, largely because I love what Simon LeBon does with word combinations that sound lovely but mean very little.

I should put it more succinctly.. that character is my inner vision of myself, had I gone ahead and joined the service.

It's too bad our schedules don't mesh better. We would be a great exercise team.

Then you might want to skip past David Usher's solo stuff (which is good stuff) and jump right to Moist which is rock and nonsense that sounds great.

I'm sure with a bit of motivation, I'd be willing to *make* them mesh.
oh, and you need a tag for music, because selfishly speaking, I need to follow the posts/comments of yours with suggestions that I can also nab.
And I need an ass icon.

I should watch it again. If I could get Mac to watch it with me, fab!

I watched Peacekeeper Wars once. It was Happily Ever After-ish. Eh.
I really want to watch the series again now that I'm thinking more about it.

I'd kinda forgotten how hunky Ben Browder is. Yum.
