I'm really looking forward to breakfast at the moment

First off, Fetish is doing better. Yes, another bladder infection. Well, the vet says probably the same one that never really went away. Since the antibiotic shot didn't work, I have to give her this liquid stuff in an eyedropper twice a day. That's not a lot of fun, but so far she's taking it better than pills. In fact, right now she's curled up on my lap and I'm having to sort of hunch over the keyboard so she doesn't get squashed by the desk. She just made a little squeak and shifted her weight--trusting that I won't let her fall. Good kitty.

How is it that I lived this long without experiencing the deliciousness of steel cut oats? If I make them with half milk half water I don't even need to add any sweeteners. They're just...amazing. Amazing! Wow. So worth the thirty minute cook time. I need to look up one of those crock pot recipes so I can cook them overnight. I believe Heidi Swanson has one on 101cookbooks somewhere, along with some ideas for toppings/additions.

I successfully completed a week of Up Day Down Day eating. Tracking my Down Day food in FitDay, I ensured that I didn't go over 500 calories a day on Down Days. On Up Days, I eat whatever I want to, sticking with whole foods guidelines, and no refined grains or sugars (except for booze). I eat like a normal healthy person on Up Days, which means I'm eating 500 to 800 calories more than I would if I was doing a daily calorie restricted eating program. The biggest downer is the 500 calorie limit on Down Days doesn't allow for any booze. And on Friday evening that really sucks. But I'm seeing good results scale-wise, which is a nice change from the zero pounds lost all through January when I was watching food intake every day.

I'm still bloating every time I eat though. Very discouraging. Also still coughing and I am pretty sure it's not allergies, damn it.

Less than a month to go before my Spring Break vacation. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I are going to try to make it down to the Cosmosphere (weather permitting), and then I'm going to spend the rest of a blissful week alone in the house and not seeing or talking to anyone (well, except [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick) until I return to work. I might go out and party on St. Pat's, but mostly I need me some alone time, for real.

Mmm oats...

This comment brought to you by brain not awake yet.

Seriously, oats are so good...

Alton Brown has a steel cut oats recipe, too. I cook mine in my fuzzy logic rice cooker.

Uh oh -- one of my co-workers bloats every time she eats and it is related to insuling and blood sugar issues. She is doing scans and all kinds of icky stuff to see what's doing it to her.

Geez! I think the only way I could make it through a 500 calorie day (with no booze) would be to sleep through it.

I feel a little sad that I'm just now finding out how much better they are than rolled oats.

Oh, I've had many many tests and I know what the cause is (small bowel bacterial overgrowth). I just don't know how to cure/alleviate it.

Yes, but you're in lovely shape already! =D

I don't know if I've seen Heidi post one. She has made cinnamon quinoa.

I ditto geekmom. Alton Brown has an overnight crockpot steel cut oats recipe.

going to try to make it down to the Cosmosphere

About time! I can't wait until the kids are old enough to go.

My quinoa experiences have been less than thrilling, alas. I'll look into Alton's technique.

Poor Fetish... did you know that the dollar general on 6th has the pouches of Purrfectly Fish for 60 cents each, on some kind of x for y$ deal? Is that cheaper than the grocery store?

I so sympathize with the food issues. I have a small basketball for a stomach right now and I'm miserable because the Probiotics are no longer helping. :( I can feel that it's just bloaty gaseousness. ARgh.

But mmmmm.. alone time. So envy your time off. I'm pretty sure that if I could only work 4 days a week, I'd be so much happier at home.

Thanks for the tip on the food!

Align only worked for a week or so with me, too. I'm trying GSE right now, even though I've heard very mixed reviews. I've only been using it for a few days, so I haven't noticed a difference yet. I'll keep you posted.

I would love a four-day work week under any conditions. Even if that meant ten-hour workdays.

I don't think I've ever had steel coat oats. How are they different, or taste different than rolled?

The texture is completely different.
