Postponed
On Monday, Dr. Cavanaugh's office called me to arrange for an antibiotic eye drop prescription. While she was on the phone with me, the nurse mentioned her concern that my pre-op appointment was so close to my surgery time (less than 24 hours) because of the risk that my pupils might still be dilated from the eye exam. I said this was the first I'd heard of the possibility and neither Cavanaugh's nor Crandon's office mentioned it when I made the appointments, despite the fact that I told both offices of both appointment dates.
She said to keep the Thursday morning appointment time and hope for the best.
Of course, you know my eyes were still dilated this morning. LASIK was postponed until 1:30, when they hope the pupils will be recovered enough for surgery.
Cross your fingers. If I have another two weeks of glasses-wearing ahead of me, I am going to be really fucking irritated.
Update: Well, well, well. Dr. Cavanaugh's office just called, and from the paperwork, it looks like Dr. Crandon used unnecessarily strong dilation drops. There are different types, apparently, and the kind he used are stronger than normal. What the fuck. He knew I was going in for the surgery this morning, and we even discussed this issue before the exam started. Apparently, Dr. Cavanaugh is less than pleased about this whole situation because this is costing him money (he's losing a patient today) and time (because he has to cram me in for a make-up appointment on Monday). So he is calling Dr. Crandon's office to figure out what the hell he was thinking. Good. Hope he gives him an earful.
Chances of my pupils being normal in three hours: Slim to none. Looks like surgery is going to be Monday afternoon.
Final Analysis: Monday surgery.

I am wearing my unhappy face.

At least the other doc is pissy, too. Hopefully he'll have calmed down by Monday.

I wouldn't want to be Brent Crandon this morning. I hope he has a very good reason for using the type of drops he used.
And unfortunately, an offshoot of this is I feel disinclined to continue to see him for my future yearly eye exams. I'm not going to make any decisions about that until I hear the full story, but it's going to have to be a damn good story.

I call bull-hockey.
I'm guessing this will put Monday evening plans on hold?

I am severely displeased on your behalf.

I really hope Dr. Crandon has a good explanation. I don't want to switch eye doctors. And I gave him a good review on Yelp!

I have to say tho', with the pupillary dilation being what it is, I'd rather you have on Monday now. I feel uneasy if they went ahead with it.
What a cockup this is.
I'm so happy with Dr. Sharon Green, she's very thorough and was the one who told me to have my thyroid checked at my eye exam! Plus, she gave me sample contacts to try, and they aren't pushy about selling eyeglasses. Not a fancy office, but I like it.

Hope that your surgery is Monday and not in two weeks. The surgery will happen and it will be awesome. (At least according to the small handful of people who have had LASIK done.)

Grrrr.
Thank you for the referral. Depending on what Dr. Crandon says at my follow-up post-op on Tuesday, I might be shopping for a new eye doc.
Just in: Dr. Cavanaugh's office said they only give those dilation drops as standard to patients under 30.

Yeah, surgery is now scheduled for this coming Monday, the 24th, at 4:00 p.m.
