I just paid someone $5,200 to cut my eyes with a laser gun

That was interesting.

Everything went fine. The doctors and nurses all said I did a great job of keeping my eyes still. I'm responding well to the treatment so far. My post-op exam this morning showed that I'm already almost at 20/20, which is very good progress for so soon after surgery (I hear).

I can't look at stuff for too long, though, because everything starts to blur and my eyes ache. This is especially true of bright things, so looking at a computer screen isn't very fun.

But so far so good. I wasn't blinded by the surgery. I can see without any corrective lenses.

Details later.

Glad to hear that things went well.

All possible good thoughts toward a swift and complete recovery.

I'm so glad you have your eyes back! I didn't think it would happen this soon!

That is so awesome! Glad everything is going well. Hope healing continues without incident.

ETA: Holy moley. My eye doctor informs me I've just been approved to participate in a clinical trial for LASIK up here. They're not testing anything about the procedure itself; just the relative efficacy of different formulations for the eye drops used before and after. Whaddya know.

Hooray! I've been thinking about you and sending good thoughts.

Hooray! Did they give you something to stare at to help keep your eyes still? I've had stuff done to my eyes before, and I was only able to manage it by fixing my gaze on something. I dunno if I'd be able to handle laser surgery without it. xD

Yay laser eyes! Have a fast and comfortable recovery.

Was it horrid? Lou was saving the money to get it done for me, but after my brother had it (I think the best quote was "I'd rather have ten vasectomies in a day than do that again") I turned down the idea cold-turkey.

Hooray! You should post the video to YouTube when your eyes are up to it.

I had cataract surgery last year, where they suck out the clouded lens and replace them with plastic ones. I opted for corrective replacements and now have 20/20, although I now need reading glasses. As I am quite active (cyclist), it's been great not needing glasses to find my way around.

It's just a little weird that I used to take my glasses off to read, and now it's the opposite.

Modern medicine is crazy. Imagine what things will be like in 50 years, provided we don't completely fuck things up and wind up living Mad Max style.

Yeah, it was pretty amazing, took about 7 minutes per eye (a month apart). Just a little anesthesia, never clear out, could barely feel anything. The worst part was wearing a stupid eye patch afterward. Aaaaarrrrrggghhhh!

(Now you know my alter ego.)
