Happy Happy!

I am in a good mood this morning, and I hope to be able to tell you all why very very soon. It's nothing about me, but it's about an upcoming event. squee!

[livejournal.com profile] ms_danson posted a nice bit of advice on her LJ today about apologies. I, too, am annoyed by preemptive apologies and try hard to avoid making them. In my opinion, the biggest problem with using apologies in this fashion is it waters down the impact of apologizing for an actual error. If someone is constantly saying "sorry for this, sorry for that" all the time, I'm not going to be terribly convinced of his contriteness when he apologizes for a wrong.

My hair is long enough to put up in a chignon! [livejournal.com profile] renniemom, I'm using that beautiful comb you bought me to anchor it. It looks gorgeous. Thank you again!

I am so guilty of that at times - something I'm trying toot work on...

I have to work at it, especially when it comes to compliments on garments or costumes. I do the dreadful thing where I start pointing out flaws instead of just saying "Thank you." It's a very rude thing to do, really. You're basically telling someone they're wrong for liking whatever it is they've complimented!

That right there, what you just said - I AM SO BAD ABOUT THAT!
I was thinking about that this weekend post-performances, when people were all like - "That was really good!" And all I could think was "You don't even know what you were looking at! That was shit!"

And I just tried really hard to smile and just say "Thankyou, I'm glad you enjoyed it."

So annoying.....

Good for you! Because really, it doesn't matter if it was shit or not. If they enjoyed it enough to tell you, then they liked it--regardless of its quality (as you perceived it).

Except when it's other dancers saying it - I'm convinced it's a pity-compliment.
Convinced.

If you say that the next time I compliment you on your dancing, I shall punch you in the face.

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
No - you I believe. And [livejournal.com profile] roya_spirit, and my mom, and Mitti. I know you guys well enough to know you would tell me if it sucked.
But in my brain - all those people I don't know very well....are either stupid or liars.

This all stems from Middle School, and I need to get over it. It's just difficult.

Feel free to punch me anyhow though - but I'd be really appreciate it if you hold the punching until I don't have performances for a week.
Bruises are a bitch to cover with makeup.

I tend to think that when other dancers compliment the costume and *not* the dancing.. it's probably a pity compliment, but when they compliment the dance, it's genuine.
Unless, of course, the costume is spectacular.

Ha! I just had the opportunity this Saturday to apologize for the filthy shower that the plumber came to look over. I was busy putting together furniture and decided that "no, I'm not apologizing for my housekeeping, I'm busy and the fact that I'm doing *this* instead of cleaning shows it."

I'd much rather have a drill in my hand than a sponge, anyway, and who really cares what he thinks, right?

Also, I'm positive he's seen much, much worse.

*I've* seen it much much worse... before I moved in! ;>

Pics pics!

You know, after the 365 project, I have taken very few photos of myself. I'm pretty burned out on it. Besides, black hair doesn't photograph details well. It wouldn't be that exciting.

On the bight side I have an excuse to use my "I pout" icon. ;P

Was going to ask for pics, too, but the logic is good for no pics. Boo.

[livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy mentioned Saturday night that your hair is shoulder lenght--WOW! I love that the comb works for you. With the heat we're seeing already this summer it may come in very handy.

Off topic: gauze opinion? If you say horrid I'll find something else. I was iffy on the colors.

I think the gauze colors are gorgeous! I like them a lot. Thumbs up!
