Company, coffee, and cuteness

I had people over last night for a very small, low-key gathering with a friend before he leaves for Florida. I cleaned up after everyone left--I always sober up before going to bed these days--and got to sleep a tiny bit before 1:00 a.m. I woke up at 6:09 this morning and couldn't fall back asleep. At least I know I'll finish my errands by noon today.

One errand is buying more coffee. I have one more morning's worth of beans in the jar, and that is not a smart way to go into a three-day weekend. Also, they're pretty mediocre beans, bought at the Merc when I was in a rush. Mediocre coffee is no longer worth my time. I deserve Awesome Coffee. One of my grad students brought me a pound of beans from J&S Coffee last month. They were good enough that I'm trekking out to their shop at 6th & Wakarusa to buy more. That's some good coffee! You should try it.

I'd planned to make it to Pretty Things Peepshow tonight, but I'm not sure I'll make it on five hours of sleep and my napping skills have failed me lately. I've not been able to nap successfully for over a month. Yes, tragic, right? But it really is annoying. Being an unavoidably early riser, I rely on those naps quite a lot. Alas. Everything changes.

And now my kitten is being adorable so I must go bother her.

My loan officer bought me (and my realtor) a pound of J&S Coffee and gave it to me at the closing of my house. It is awesome! I still have about 1/3 of it left after 3 weeks. Makes sense they are at 6th and Wakarusa since the loan office is right there, too. Good to know their location. 6th and Wak is about as far away from my house as you can get in Lawrence. Worth the trip, especially if I only have to go there about once a month.

I am up early, too. What the hell?

They're in that strip mall with Marisco's. The interior is a little bleak and boring, but I'm not going to linger there. Gimme my beans so I can get out!

The staff was friendly, and the girl who scooped out my beans for me was helpful and patient when I couldn't remember the name of the coffee the student bought me. I picked the two that sounded the most likely and she said those two made up one of their most popular blends. Keen!

This might be the most perfect cup of coffee ever (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/picturesoftheday/7862894/Pictures-of-the-day-30-June-2010.html?image=5).

J&S Coffee was popular in the law office. I've had some, but have never bought any for home. Maybe I should, given it is just down the street. After I empty out my 2lb bag from The Roasterie.
