Show!
The Lady Gaga show was pretty fucking super.
I was a little worried that the opening band had killed my soul, but it managed to revive itself at the last minute. Good god that band was bad. Like, Spinal Tap bad, but not funny and not as talented. We deduced that it was a pity fuck, to thank them for letting her open for them at some bar venue way back when. Nice gesture, but Christ, what a thing to inflict on your fans.
There's no way I can describe the show except to say it was a beautiful spectacle. There were a few timing issues and odd pauses, but I think this version of the tour is fairly new. And really, so is she. For this being the second leg of her first world tour, the production was phenomenal.
normalcyispasse: the Paparazzi piece certainly was an eyeful! Very well choreographed, although I'm not sure how well it worked as a performance piece. I think it would've been better with more struggle. You know what I mean?
I loved the part where she admitted to "abusing this part of the show" and requested that the audience tell her they loved her and thought she was sexy. That was funny and awesome and confirmed her dork sense of humor.
On the way home, we estimated a dozen costume changes and I remember at least five major set configs. Impressive. Also, the Sprint Center is a surprisingly good venue. The sound was fucking amazing. When I remember the old days of stadium/arena rock shows and how you never could really the lyrics of the songs unless you already knew them, and then afterword you couldn't hear anything...man. Sound technology has come a long way.
Fabulous show!

Very glad to hear it was a great show. I hope you all didn't have too many headaches with the heat and the circus that is trying to park for that venue.

Yes! I loved that part, too. =)
I think my favorite performance of "Paparazzi" is the one she did on SNL. No blood, but still awesome.

Here's where I say that I was in the staging area when that song came on. I looked up, and all I could see over the backstage masking was a giant glowing monster bobbling through the air. It was AWESOME.
(Then I went stage left and caught the rest of the show, which was great.)
I, too, was impressed by the sound. I don't know if it's a characteristic of the arenas (US Airways here, Sprint there) or of their sound design; personally, I suspect the latter. Their amps and speakers draw a LOT of juice and their sound engineer is pretty brilliant.

I didn't even consider the fact that the quality sound was attributable to the traveling show's equipment. That makes total sense.
So fab that you got to work the show!

I worked the show at US Airways Arena here in Phoenix. It was really an experience.
And, really? I have to say that I find her music pretty vapid, but after seeing the technicality and theatricality of the show, I guess I'm a fan.

Personally, I think her earbugs are pretty good -- they stand up to cover versions VERY well in different genres and are quite decent on a music-theory level. Not like I'm a huge expert or anything.
And Lydia, I'm ever so glad you loved it.

Wanna hear more about it soon.
