Domesticity

One of the English profs sent me a heads-up about this Twitter account yesterday. My favorite is this one.

[livejournal.com profile] mckitterick bought me a foam roller for coaxing out the knots in my glutes and I.T. bands. Jesus Christ the pain. The glorious pain. Why did I not shell out for one of these before now? We also bought some tennis balls, which are too intense for my poor glutes right now, but did wondrous things for [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's back.

I stocked up on hard squash ($.55/lb at Checker's) and will be making butternut puree and mashed acorn squash for freezing in my new stackable freezer-safe containers. No more gallon zip-lock bags for chicken stock*, etc. Yay! I was dubious of the effectiveness of freezing spaghetti squash, so that will be purchased and prepared on an as-needed basis.

Laying in food for the winter is a delightful activity. Prepping masses of food for future meals is psychologically rewarding--both at the time of creation and when I pull it out to thaw. I am very much an ant rather than a grasshopper, but at least I'm not as much of an asshole about it. I like to share food.

On [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's post yesterday, someone asked "where do I find someone to cook for me?" In case anyone reading here has the same question, let me direct you to what I suggested [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick tell her. Craig's List, bulletin boards at local food co-ops, community blogs, etc., all would be great places to advertise for a cooking/eating buddy.

* I have over two gallons of 24-hour simmered chicken stock for freezing, too. MmmmMMM!
