Soy no more

Another food to thoroughly and permanently cross off my list? Soy.

I cut out most soy products a long time ago. But I still had a bottle of wheat-free tamari lingering in the fridge and I figured how much damage could it do used as a marinade?

Well.

One marinaded pork dish later, my dress that was loose this morning is tight across my abdomen. Bloat city. And I can't breathe through my nose at all. My sinuses feel like they're trying to explode out my face. Also, so tired. Ugh. I fell dead asleep during my lunch break and was out cold for a good forty minutes.

Soy = Definite Allergen for me

Good to know!

This is sad. And also makes me hungry for Thai House's Basil Soy stir fry. Mmmmmm.

I had no problems with the wine on Monday, and I'd much rather drink wine than eat soy products. I'm calling this one an almost-draw--just slightly in my favor.

You have fun with your Basil Soy stir fry. It's been so long since I had soy as anything other than an additive or as soy sauce, I don't miss it.

Well, good! I'm glad it isn't such a big deal. And also, re: wine... YAY!

Yeah, not a big deal at all. I cut out tofu, tempeh, soymilk, etc., when I got diagnosed with thyroid disease.

Serious yay for wine! I was so relieved!

There may be other ingredients responsible for that tho... look at the sodium content. Does it have MSG? or other glutamates? Marinades can have all kinds of hidden stuff that could be responsible. Bloating by itself is often a sign of a sodium imbalance.

It might've been the sodium, but definitely no MSG or gluten in the tamari. It was this brand and bottle (http://www.amazon.com/Tamari-Sauce-Wheat-Free-Organic/dp/B0001FI4BQ). I added minced garlic and ginger to the marinade, and that was it.

I'd like to think it was the excess salt, but [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick didn't have a problem and he's gotten fairly sodium sensitive thanks to our new eating habits.

Now, it's very likely that it could be a combo of the soy and sodium. In which case, it's still a matter of nixing soy in general, in any amount.

I know, right? My body. Good times!

I think you meant to say, "Raaar."
