A variety of mostly useless tidbits
Deke Dickerson on the Rachel Maddow show. It's a really great spot! Man, I wish he came through here more often...and came to Lawrence at all.
I just bought this pattern for my birthday present to myself. When
elaine4queen posted about it earlier this month, the pattern was sold out, but I got news this morning that they're back in stock. *snag*
stuology mentioned that there are some problems with Flickr deleting accounts (and, thus, photos) without notification or explanation. I'm going to make sure all my stuff I've got there is backed up and then do some research into alternative photo-hosting sites.
Last night's dinner was one of the best soups I've ever created. I hope to be able to remember the ingredients and will be typing that up (as best I can) later this morning.
It looks like I'm not going to be able to take vacation during Spring Break this year since the grad student recruitment visit is the Monday through Wednesday right after break. I need to make a spreadsheet that calculates my accrued vacation through the end of June so I can budget for it. I don't want to wind up in a use-it-or-lose-it bind like I did last year. I so much appreciate that I can save up my vacation time over 80 hours/two weeks, but my particular job responsibilities cause my schedule to clash with when it's most convenient to take time off. I'm including this information mostly so I'll remember to make that damn spreadsheet. Soon.
ARGH! I just realized that, during errands last night, I forgot to pick up my (mostly useless) thyroid meds. *sigh* Guess I gotta go out again tonight. Drat and blast.
Update: I love love love this post so much. So! Much! I love it enough that it just convinced me to purchase her cookbook (even though I swore I wasn't going to purchase any more printed cookbooks) because this woman deserves my money.

I've been watching the Flickr thing .. it seems that most of the "deleted accounts" tend to post the same (http://thomashawk.com/2009/01/how-would-you-feel-if-your-flickr-account-were-permanently-deleted.html) complaint (http://www.petapixel.com/2011/01/11/flickr-user-protests-deleted-pro-account/), so I'm not accepting it on face value yet. Also, that last complaint is hosted on a competitor's site.. hmm.
What *does* annoy me is that Flickr doesn't remind you when it's time to renew your account, which happened to my mum. She found her account back to free status and half her pix had disappeared. However, when she made her payment, the "deleted" pix all showed back up.
Your pattern isn't showing up for me, must be a Flash site, we're blocked here. Boo.
In happy news, I have your nail lacquers!

I'm not really willing to pay for that, even if they never find my stuff objectionable. They could according to their TOS decide that photos I post that belong to my grandparents from the 40s don't belong to me and delete my account without warning or even telling me which TOS I apparently deleted. Their TOS allows them to do that. I consider that policy to be a problem of which I'm no longer willing to pay for.
I'm going to carefully read through SmugMug's TOS, but I'm likely ditching. Or, I'll just invest time and host my own photos on my own server. Just with my schedule, I'd rather pay to use really good services that already have that done.

Ah.
Is it that they are using some sort of commercial linking?
That wouldn't be something I'd have to worry about, then.
Yet. :)
That said...there's no way I'd trust any website to not have issues at times, so I'm buying another back-up hard drive for my pix and music.

I don't know if I did or not, but I have mine on a reminder now.

And I agree with the compassionate part. I *know* it gets busy and overwhelming with children. It really does.
What I don't understand, though, is how so many people would rather wish really hard that the Earth's rotation would slow down over just re-prioritizing their life.

Alas, I've gleaned all I'm willing to glean at this point. The only ones non-useful ones remaining are my grandmother's Mediterranean cookbooks that she used when my mother was growing up (get rid of those? Jamais!), and the awesome Vincent Price cookbook that
I wonder if I could paypal that blog author money for a PDF of the book.... =D

all my illustrations for my posts are hosted there. but it doesn't really work like flickr. what is great is that if it is a tumblr address and not some art gallery or whatever, it will be a permanent link and not just disappear when the host yanks it. here's mine, have a look around http://elaine4queen.tumblr.com/
it is quite limited. personal pictures i just host on facebook. probably not the same quality as flickr, but really easy to fetch, and no limit.
