She's tight

I am waiting on one teeny piece of information before I can do my job this morning (isn't that how it always goes?), so I'm trawling eBay for cheap tights. I want some more funky colored tights and haven't had any luck finding them locally. Even Target's racks are distressingly neutral-toned.

Of course, what I'm going to share with you are all the things I found that are not what I was looking for.

Japanese calorie-burning tights. I would say "only in Japan," but really, it's everywhere.

Fleece lined pleather leggings. I would buy these if they weren't one-size-fits-all from Korea (which translates to "too big for American butts").

Half-pleather-half-matte jersey leggings. Ditto above, only these state size small. No way, buddy.

Etro paisley leggings. These are gorgeous. I would never wear them.

Velvet leggings. These seem like a fantastic idea until you realize that the thighs of the girls modeling them don't touch for a reason.

Shredded back tights. I might take advantage of the 80s resurgence and make myself a pair of these from from some old leggings. I think they'd look smashing with a pair of contrast tights underneath.

Double pothole back seam pantyhose. I love these. A lot. There's no way these would wear well as stockings, but they would be worth wearing pantyhose for.

Zipper mini-skirt with attached leggings. Attaching a skirt to leggings for daily wear (as opposed to the skirted yoga/dance pants things) is just silly. Who wants to disrobe so completely every time s/he goes to the toilet? I do like the look of zippered-front skirts like that, though. I must improve my separating zipper-insertion skills.

Striped tights with horizontal break at the ankle. More good 80s-esque throwback fashion. Again with the Korean one-size thing, though. Dang.

Fair-Isle-esque reindeer leggings. Reindeer. On your legs.

Black and neon paint splash tights. Because the shitty parts of the 80s need representation, too.

I don't know how to describe these. I can only say that they deserve to be worn by someone with longer legs than mine, who wears shorter skirts than I do. These things are beautiful. Beautiful.

A similar design as those above. But with skulls. Adorable.

And now the mail is here, so I'm going to go help with that, since my needed email has yet to arrive. Oh, wait. Um. Oh. Oh great. Looks like KU's email servers are down. Nice.

Love the black pothole tights :D

Also, white tights are very easy to dye, and available cheap at Wal-Mart in many sizes.

Really? White tights are easy to dye? Do you recommend any particular fiber content or dye brands?

These were George white thigh-high stockings from Wal Mart and Rit dye. Had to dye two pair because the first pair came out too vibrant purple and I was looking for the lavender. Key is to dye them dry, not wet them before submerging like you usually do. Rit works well, and is cheap; dharma's fiber reactive works better. Tight material you want is nylon, it is easily dyeable.

Super! Thank you for the hints. Nice thing about something as small as tights--you don't need a big bucket/washing machine!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)

I say yes.
And I might even have some nylon-reactive dyes in my stash.

Woot! Woot!

That was a fun click through read! :) Thanks for posting.

You're welcome! I'm happy to brighten your day.

Oh oh oh! I want the stripey ones and the skull ones and those Mediterranean ones, too!

I often wear leggings in lieu of pants to teach my dance classes.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I appreciate it when a teacher wears things that allow students to easily see her knees. I know tight leggings aren't fashionable (like Melodias), but omg, so much better at revealing the source of the movement.

Of course, you have to be comfortable in the clothes you're wearing to teach, too. I'm sure a lot of people, including dance teachers, aren't that body-confident.

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't like it when teachers wear clothing that obscures body mechanics. I think this is particularly vital for beginner classes. I always wear something that reveals the shape of my legs, or which can be rolled up to show the knees and thighs, when necessary, to demonstrate a principle (whether it's alignment, or to show if my thighs/glutes are engaged or relaxed).

The Mediterranean ones knock me out. But I'm 5'3" and stocky so they'd look ridiculous on me. :/

I actually kind of love the paisley ones. :P And the double pothole ones are fantastic, but I agree with the hose beneath them.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with the hose beneath them.

Yeah, unless you've got seventeen-year-old skin, nude hose at the least is required under stuff like that. I don't even wear small-holed fishnets without something underneath.

I broke down and made an order from Sock Dreams (http://www.sockdreams.com/products/on-sale/pattern-mix-tights) after seeing those tights on Joi. These aren't quite the same, but still...
those paisleys are tits!
I'd wear them.

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I was disappointed in the stuff I got from Sock Dreams. Oh well.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)

What did you get, and in what way were they not up to snuff?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
those paisleys are tits!

And your long, slim legs would look faboo in them!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)

Perhaps alas, however, I just dropped a bundle already, so I may have to wait until I pay that off.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we're in the same club. Poo.

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
J just have to suggest that some Saturday daytime when you come to KC, you must go to Gigi's wig Shop on Grand. Really. Bring money.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know Gigi's! That's where I bought my wigs for when I worked in the KCRF brothel. I heard a rumor they closed up shop, though.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
oh no.. say it ain't so!~

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know for sure for sure! I just heard the rumor. I haven't needed to buy a hairpiece for a couple years now.

You're right. (http://www.istockanalyst.com/article/viewiStockNews/articleid/3568695)

(Google fu strikes again!)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. =(

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh well, better to know before setting out on a trip to it.
It seems they did very well for themselves, tho'.. a million dollar settlement!

They were still there last time I went past. Originally the Power & Light district was going to condemn their building. I wrote to the city and told them to cut it out, and my letter must have been one of thousands. It's a really great little store.
