Three points of possible non-interest
Extension Services, where they still exist, are pretty awesome. Check out this list of Clothing and Sewing Publications from the New Mexico State University Extension Service. K-State still has an Extension program, but their online offerings are geared more toward agriculture and livestock, obviously. I considered returning to college to get my teaching certification for a Home-Ec teacher when I first got out of IT consulting. It's a good thing I didn't (for several reasons). I'm sure I would've been out of a job by now. Stupid modern education system.
Some well-meaning person tried to give me an invitation to attend a faculty-and-staff-only interfaith dialog. He wouldn't go away, so I finally agreed to take his flyer. It was annoying enough that I had someone trying to get me to attend a function full of god-talk. Then I looked at the list of people participating and Diana Carlin* is the keynote speaker. I got a good (read: bitter, ironic) laugh out of that one, let me tell you.
My hair looks fucking awesome today. I would show you a picture, but I am still having camera issues.
mckitterick ordered me a new camera last night, though! I found the one I wanted at Target, and of course they were out of stock--with no idea of when they would have more.

I've learned almost everything I know about canning from University Extension programs. I think a lot of people just don't use those resources because they don't know about them. Either that I'm a complete throwback...which is entirely possible.
