If, like me, you're stymied by how to donate blood now that all of Lawrence's blood banks have closed, fret no more. Here is a website that allows you to search for local blood drives.

This girl makes a lot of things I wouldn't consider great food, but her tutorial on rendering lard in the slow-cooker and re-seasoning cast iron are fantastic.

For those of you who were disappointed in the quality of Best of Bootie 2009, let me assure you that Best of Bootie 2010 does not disappoint. The Nirvana vs. Jackson 5 mash-up is amazing. Check out Smells like Rockin' Robin.

Rob and Kelly, of It Starts With Murder fame, have established a Kickstarter account for their next project, The Galactic Jungle. Consider shooting a couple bucks of your tax return their way.

Check out this fucking amazing band from Beirut. I'm beyond irritated that I can't buy the MP3 album because I can't install the Amazon download software to my work computer, and I don't know (yet) how my little HP netbook would handle the software. It's pretty limited in its capabilities--the netbook, that is. And why should I have to download software just to get a MP3 album anyway? Fuck you Amazon. I hate you.

Scott Sonnon gives a very nice lesson on learning from your failures. He sums it up with the words How harshly we judge failures in the present, only to realize later the blessed gift they had been. I would change that to say they can only be a gift if we make an effort to learn from them. It's easy to wallow in failure--and it's fine to wallow for a little while. But if you want to enjoy those potential "blessed gifts," you've got to make the effort to learn from and use the experience in a positive way. Nothing just magically happens.

It appears I was wrong about my healthful eating ways. Check out this enlightening video on how processed food is better for everybody, in every way.
