Nana

My nana had an incident yesterday where she almost fell in the grocery store when her leg went numb. This morning, they confirmed that it was a stroke. She still has no feeling in her left leg, and her tongue is lagging slightly to the left, but she has no other speaking problems and her mental faculties aren't touched. The doctor is recommending a two-week stay in the hospital of "acute therapy" where they work on some form of physical therapy with her for three hours a day.

My parents are joking with her that this whole event is her way of avoiding the hip replacement that she was due to undergo at the end of the month.

Poor Nana.

I'm glad I'm already scheduled to go to Indy next weekend.

Oh! I almost forgot. This sign was posted on an outside wall of Wescoe this morning.

Have You Seen This Cat

WIN.

I'm glad it wasn't more severe! Hope the therapy does her a lot of good, and that you have a great visit with her. ::hugs::

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope she agrees to stay in the hospital for the therapy...and that my family can afford it. I'm not sure what her insurance will cover. I was afraid to ask about that part. Yikes.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I was wondering the same thing. Poor Nana! Give her my love.

And what do you think those people mean by "MFW (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=MFW)"? I vote for #6.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely Mother Fucking Win.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh how frightening, I'm glad to hear it didn't affect her speech and mind.

What a relief that you are already going to visit.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, it's her second stroke, so this should all be old hat to her by now. =D

Seriously, though, yeah. On all counts.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I didn't know she'd had one previously.
Still...

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a long time ago. Late 1970's. She was really young.

Everyone on both sides of my immediate family has died of a stroke. Not a heart attack or cancer death among us.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)

Take some turmeric (http://drpinna.com/dr-meercola-on-repairing-strokes-16626)with you on your visit?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the info! I knew about the anti-inflammatory properties, but didn't know about the post-stroke benefits. Cool.

[identity profile] bart-calendar.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hugs. I know how that sucks from when my dad had his strokes last summer.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

This is my last grandparent and she's a good'un. The world's a better place with her in it and I'd selfishly prefer she be around for quite a while longer.

I know that feeling.

Enjoy your visit, and I'm glad it was mild!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. And me, too!

We might not be able to do the crosswords at the dining room table per usual this visit, but apparently she's got a stack of them at the hospital right now. The fact that she's already doing crosswords fewer than 24 hours after the stroke = Really Good Sign.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY!

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT SIGN IS AMAZING!!!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. It's like "Pack it up, bitches, 'cos you're not seeing anything better than that for the rest of the day."

[identity profile] apocalypticbob.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thoughts are with your nana.

And that sign is made of WIN!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

And yeah, that sign is made of 100% MFW! Or, at least, so I'm told.

Sorry about your grandmother, at least it wasn't worse...I hope her recovering is quick.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
IT'S AWESOME. IT IS AWESOME. YES?

Still, it's a fabulous sign.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It was so awesome that I (yes, I) decided to ignore the apostrophe abuse.

That is the powerful awesomeness of this sign.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed.

[identity profile] fairgoldberry.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs*

I am keeping your family in my thoughts, hoping for a swift recovery for your nana.

Much love,
Rowan

Thank you.

Good, healing thoughts to your Nana. How scary to have that happen in a grocery store.

That is a hilarious sign. But, what is "100% MFW"? I googled and everything. I can't figure it out!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
One hundred percent mother fucking win!

[identity profile] indigodreamer.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh. Okay. Thanks. :P

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
According to the Urban Dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=MFW), there are many possible definitions. Oddly, CR's defintion (below) isn't one of them!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, then Urban Dictionary's just wrong, isn't it?

[identity profile] indigodreamer.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I looked there. Bizarre.

[identity profile] orrin.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the best sign!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It really, really is.

[identity profile] renniemom.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's thankfulness that it was a mild stroke and lots of prayers and hopes that she recovers quickly. It's way cool when we get to have grandparents into our adult lives; makes them even more amazing.

Big win points for the cat. Even a non-cat person can love that sign!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

And yes, that sign. Man, that sign. Love.
