One more vice down the toilet

Yesterday was Day One of no caffeine. It was okay. No headache--at least no headache that hasn't been around since Thursday.

I took some Sudafed this morning in an attempt to clear that up. Shoulda done it before, but I was hoping it would go away on its own instead of setting up residence in my ears (with plans to build an extension behind my eyes).

But yeah. Caffeine-free now. Woo hoo.

went cold turkey on coffee for a week to see if i could.
aspirin killed my withdrawal headaches on day 2 and 3.
did not need it by day 4.

good luck!

Oh, sorry I wasn't clear in the post. This isn't a withdrawal headache. I specifically didn't go cold turkey, just to avoid that. This is a headache that's been hanging around since Thursday. Probably due to pressure changes in the weather. Hence the Sudafed.

Boo.

Are you permanently caffeine free or antibiotic treatment caffeine free?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-18 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Caffeine free until I get my adrenal output/cortisol levels under control. Which could be...years? =(

[identity profile] e4q.livejournal.com 2011-04-17 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
good good!

caffine free is good.

it will give you a much clearer picture of your energy and food needs.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-18 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for pointing out the positives!

as a total car crash of meds and physical and psych symptoms i find it useful to de-caffinate and de-sugar periodically just to clarify the petri dish a little bit. i am a bit of a wimp regarding caffine, so i don't take much of it anyway, but sugar can creep up quite easily. the good news is it only takes three days of cold turkey to be totally free of sugar cravings, and i find that very helpful. i sort of need to know what is my real fatigue. hence my relative keen-ness to come off the sleeping pills. past few days have been WEIRD.

That video is hilarious. Good luck with the caffeine-free quest.

Thank you. *sigh*

That commercial is fucking spooky.

I was caffeine free (mostly, in that it wasn't an every day thing but me likee the cans of diet coke if they happened to be in the house) for quite a long time until recently when I started drinking whole leaf oolong tea again in the morning (and then another 10 oz mixed with 24 oz of water in a giant glass of iced tea in the afternoon). So delicious! Didn't have any on Friday and had HEADACHE LIKE FUCK. Was blaming it entirely on my head injury from Wednesday but I'm wondering now if it was *also* caffeine withdrawal. :/

So, now I'm decaffeinating my tea by brewing it a minute then dumping that out before brewing it again. Doesn't make it entirely caffeine free but caffeine addiction is NOT a path I want to get stuck on again (back in the day I would drink three POTS of coffee - at least! - a day!)

Once again (surprise), I agree with what [livejournal.com profile] elaine4queen says above about being able to get a more accurate assessment of how food/what food is affecting your energy levels.

Do you remember those ads when they first aired? I tried to find the one that had more David Bowie, but failed.

Three pots a day? wow.

Wow, go you!

I love the hands/coffee cups tango at the end!

In all honesty, going caffeine free isn't that bad, it's just a nuisance. There are several caffeine free herb teas I really really like, Bengal Spice by Celestial Seasonings being my favorite. Of course, they discontinued the original recipe of Emperor's Choice. I guess somebody told them how much I loved it.

*more support*

Bengal Spice is my replacement, yes! I am drinking it right now!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-18 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
You would probably also like th Good Earth Caffeine Free (http://www.goodearthteas.com/original-teas-2.html), I like it just lukewarm, and it's got no yucky stuff in it.

Oh, and an aside.. years ago at one of those KC Psychic/Healer fairs, a gal did an Iridology reading on me. She stressed (ha!) that I needed to take better care of my adrenal glands and recommended red raspberry tea. It's also good for the monthlies.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-18 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
There is some weird serendipity going on right now because after my Bengal Spice, I switched to Raspberry Zinger, which is what I'm drinking now. o_O

Does the Merc carry that Good Earth tea?

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-18 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen it at the Merc, although it's been a long time since I've looked, but I've also found it at the HyV and Dillons.

Good gawd, I forgot to get you some of my English Breakfast DeCaf.

Well, decaf still has caffeine, so I'm all herbal all the time now.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-18 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)

Yay, I'm off the hook.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-18 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely. =D
