Earth Day

Ladies! Party In My Pants cloth liners is having an Earth Day sale. If you've never purchased cloth pads or liners from them, you can order for one hundred percent free one free pad. For return customers, or those already sold on the idea, there's a 10% off coupon. Use code EARTHDAY11 at checkout. The Earth Day offer is only good today, obviously, but there is free shipping today through the end of the month.

Last night's Rumi presentation was disappointing. The dancers and musicians were beautiful and moving (ha). But the speaker was awful--said nothing I didn't already know, said nothing I couldn't have looked up on wikipedia, and said nothing that made it worth struggling past his accent to understand. The man who read the poetry had a nice voice, but it was just nice. Not modulated or engaging or anything. Frankly, I would've rather had the presentation speaker read the poetry in the original language. I might not have understood the words, but they would have at least sounded interesting.

In spite of the atrocious name of the organizing group (SPICMACAY? What were they thinking?), I am considering going to this concert tomorrow. Load this video just for the sound. Don't try to watch it--you'll get seasick.

Just let that play and open up your F-page to read in a different window. Isn't that soothing and beautiful? And now I want chicken tikka masala.

Edit: Jesus Christ. I'm talking about Earth Day, cloth panty liners, and weird tingy-ling music. I sound like a hippie. D=

I saw a Rumi presentation years ago in KC and it sounds like it was the exact same presentation you saw!
So....I'm really glad I stayed home and finished that bottle of wine.

I know this sounds crappy and elitist, but he was presenting to a university audience. You'd think he would've done more than present a chronological history of Rumi's life.

There was no discussion about the ties between Sufi dancing and Rumi's poetry, nothing about the ritual of the dance itself, nothing about Rumi's own spiritual beliefs. Just "Here's when he was born, here's a short history of his life, and now we have some whirling dervishes, enjoy."

Yah....we saw them at Rockhurst I think, so.....

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
L-A-M-E.

It was nice to see Clark drumming, though. And his wife, Malika, was one of the dancers.

Well, damn. I'd hoped to indulge in some intellectual/cultural elitism by proxy.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Feel free to bark up some elitism here! I've already started dissing the hippies, after all.

WHO ARE YOU, AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY FRIEND?>?

SHE RAN OFF WITH THAT RAE CHICK WHO HATED GARDENING.

We May...
... Have Lived In Lawrence Too Long,

but we will never, ever wear patchouli.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha ha ha!

For serious, though, the cloth liners are great. Super comfortable and don't smell like Hygiene Product. Although with some pairs of underwear I have to safety pin them in place.

Although with some pairs of underwear I have to safety pin them in place.

Ok. THAT just terrifies me.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! It's no biggie. The pin goes on the outside. =)

Besides, after two decades of pinning my dance costumes to my panties, I'm pretty cavalier about safety pins in that area.

Yep, there's a reason the slang term is "on the rag"

Good thing you wear granny panties.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
*zing*!

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what you say now...

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
*shudder*

If I start wearing patchouli, shoot me.

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
With your gun? Or a watergun filled with vodka?

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)

Yah, the vodka will eliminate the stench.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)

Believe it or not, I used to wear it.. long long ago and before I lived here.

Living here and smelling it all the time mixed with garlic and BO killed it for me. I threw it all away.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit, it's not a bad smell itself. Just too many connotations. Ew.

[identity profile] hippie-mamabear.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Free cloth liners!? YAY! My order went through and i'm really excited. I've been thinking about making my own cloth pads for...um...the last 7 years or so? But i don't trust my craftsmanship enough. I love the idea though, and this might just talk me into plunking down the cash for a set.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hurray and congratulations! I think you'll like 'em. Note: there are a few of my older pairs of undies that require a little safety pin to hold them in place. I usually put it up at the top in the front so things don't slide to the back.

Hasn't been an issue when I'm wearing a newer pair, though.

[identity profile] hippie-mamabear.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Good tip, thanks!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying one, too!
That, and a new Diva cup to replace the crappy Instead I'd tried and failed to continuously use.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay!

[identity profile] fairgoldberry.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been using a Diva since 2005, and it's really changed my relationship with my period for the better. The Insteads, by comparison, are complicated and wonky.

Let me know if you have any questions; I'll be happy to share what I've learned.

Love,
Rowan

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I love my Diva Cup, too.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)

Super, thanks! I joined the LJ community to compare the different types.
Yah, Insteads are like an old diaphragm, and I can actually *feel* that weird huge ring, too. Ick.

[identity profile] fairgoldberry.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooo!

I've been looking for a good outlet for cloth pads. The GladRags I use as Diva backup (for days when I am bleeding heavilyy and also uncertain about my access to bathroom facilities) work OK, but tend to the 'bunchy and clunky' end of things.

Thanks!

Much love,
Rowan

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The PIMP liners are thin and not bunchy at all. But I just use the liners (like you, as backup), and not the pads.

Colin totally just fell asleep in my arms while I let the video play in the background. Nice one! Soothing indeed!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for happy sleeping babies!
