Things that bug me

They are too numerous to mention, but this one has been bugging me the past few days at work: People who say Eye-talian.

Drives me fucking up the wall. It's a short I, folks. Ih-talian. Ih-talian.

We've been having some problems with the KU phone/network department getting our offices mixed up with the department of French and Italian this week. So I've had to listen to numerous conversations between my officemate and NTS discussing this problem with the ethernet jacks and the department of French and goddam Eye-talian.

I can't even understand where this comes from! They don't pronounce the country name Eye-taly. So what the fuck is up with Eye-talian?

Cripes. It's a day later and I still need that nap and donut combo.

Except it would completely go over their heads. Might be worth it to own the baby pink Jr. raglan Sodomite tee, though. =)

Reminds me, but not in an irritating way, of one of my favorite Hothead panels: (http://www.hotheadpaisan.com/fehpc.htm)

Oooo! I have that tee shirt!!! Yes, one of my faves, too.

HAHAHAHA! God, don't ever meet my dad then, he is the worst! It HAS TO BE a Southern thing. He also says "nu-cu-lar" and I confess I picked that up from him and it has been one hell of a habit to break.

I was just talking about you last night to [livejournal.com profile] cherryjane...were your ears burning? All good of course, Erin can quote me!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-03-31 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
No ears burning, but probably because they're calloused by now. ;) Hey, you and [livejournal.com profile] cherryjane coming to VLV? We really need to schedule a meetup.

Nope...She has a wedding to be in that weekend and after The Round-Up and saving for Disney World any hopes for Vegas or Indy are out of the question. We did discuss next year for Vegas or Oneida Casino gig...those two weekenders are two weeks apart in 2005 so we were debating which one would be the one to go to.

I so want to go to Indy, though. I had tickets for it last year, but the Hey-Wake Gods shined upon me and I spent my plane ticket money on a furniture deal of a lifetime.

Is Indy retired or are there still plans to keep it going? I think it is more my speed.

Indy is definitely on (at least for this year), and the lineup this year is really good! It's my favorite of all the weekenders. It's so homey and comfortable and it seems like people are friendlier b/c there are just so many less than Vegas. It's also not the freaking Marathon Race that VLV is. There's time to relax and hang out without worrying ohgod i'mmissingsomething!!!

I'm with you on that.
It irks me the same way as hearing "Ay-rab."

and today, I got to chuckle at my office mate refer to the eh-thernet. Reminded me of all the "yah's" last night. Is that where "yahoo" came from?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-03-31 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yah, yah know, I betcha gotta point there. Yah!

Oh, that's not very nice, ya know, girls.

As anyone who knows us will attest, Roya and I could rarely if ever be classified in the nice girl category. ;>

People who say Eye-talian.

Aahahahahahahaha! Are you sure you don't live in Kentucky? That sort of thing is common here. My stepdad actually uses the word "barrie" instead of borrow. As in "Can I barrie that for a second?" My grams also refuses to say Hawaii like it's pronounced. She says so that it sounds like "Hi-why". Oh, oh, and iron is "arn", and fire is "far". I got a ton of em'!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-04-01 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. I grew up in Southern Indiana (it's a separate part of the state, like Southern California). We had "warsh", "feesh", "peecan", etc. I've never heard "Hi-why", but "huh-wai-yuh" was common.

Ah, dialects!!!
