You may not be one for politics, and I understand. At the end of the day, it's pretty hard to tell the difference between a Democrat and a Republican, and you probably feel you don't have one ounce of control over the future of this nation. But there's a story out there that may get lost in the daily babble of Janet's nipple, good people dying in Iraq, and Kobe's trial. Don't let this story get buried. Read it, pass it on.

You may have heard about Richard Clarke, former counterterrorism czar for both Clinton and Bush, his book Against All Enemies: Inside America's War on Terror and his testimony to the 9/11 commission that the Bush administration failed to take terrorism and Al-Qaeda seriously. And that the same Bush and his administration was planning an invasion of Iraq from Day One. Clarke's story is getting drowned out in all the shrill right vs. left rhetoric, but it's been heard enough to start making a difference. But this isn't the story you should know. Dick Clarke's story isn't the one that's being lost.

No, that "honor" goes to Sibel Edmonds, a Turkish-American woman who answered the call of the FBI in September, 2001 for translators of Middle Eastern languages. While performing those duties (top secret security clearance to translate terrorist-related intercepts), what she found was unbelievable... evidence that this government knew what was coming prior to 9/11, and did little about it. Furthermore, she was was offered a raise and a full time job in order to not go public, and was told by the Department of Justice to "retranslate" and "adjust" terrorist intercepts that had been received before 9/11 by the FBI and CIA. When she said she was going public, "Attorney General John Ashcroft told (her) he was invoking "State Secret Privilege and National Security" to silence her. 60 Minutes ran the first story last summer (also almost silenced) and she testified before the 9/11 committee last week. This article from today's Independent (U.K.) is one of the few complete, free versions of the story.

This isn't some crazy person, she's being taken very seriously. This isn't some vast left-wing conspiracy, this is true evidence (not Clarke-said, Condi-said) that the Bush administration dropped the ball completely, and have spent more time and energy trying to cover their asses, democratize Iraq, and take away our rights than actually solving the problems. Their behavior has become criminal, and they have to go now. Bush must not be re-elected. He should, in fact, be impeached, and members of his staff should go to jail.

Don't get me wrong, I know who was responsible for 9/11. But I know who was irresponsible as well. This isn't about right vs left. This is about our future.

The dearth of coverage here in the U.S. is pathetic, but don't let that stop you. There are two things you can do. One, read the story (there's so much more to it), and pass it on... by blog, by e-mail, by word, in person. Don't let Sibel Edmonds fall into obscurity. If she does, I think there's a very real risk that she'll "disappear". That cannot be allowed to happen. Two, do what you can (including voting) to get Bush out of office. End this madness.
