Today's Tumblr: Anatomical Hearts, November 21.

I now have all holiday gifts purchased, but for my mother's. I was hoping to find a sale on Wüsthof knives, but it looks like I'm going to have to go with Henckles. Which is fine. Right now she's using some wretched piece of crap knife that slides right off whatever it is you're cutting and is a health hazard. I refuse to help her chop food when I visit because I am terrified of her cheap, dull knives. So anyway, out later this week for a couple knives and then I am done.

mckitterick and my parents get an easy road when it comes to buying gifts for me. I usually come up with one or two things that I suggest--almost always with links for pictures or purchase. The people whom I know that expect to buy me gifts (by this I mean the people whose feelings will be hurt if I say "really, don't buy me anything") never fear a lack of gift suggestions--very specific gift suggestions--from me. Whether or not they pay attention, well...it was a source of irritation in some prior relationships ("but if I buy you that, it won't be a surprise"), and mckitterick's family hasn't quite caught on yet, but it's cool.

This is all a very roundabout way of bringing up the subject of What I Already Got For Xmas this year. Check these motherfucking boots, y'all.



They're by Frye. And they fit like they were made for me. Aw, yeah.

I made this new LJ icon in celebration. That's a screen shot from a Due South episode, btw, so it's a double-win.

Thank you! I'm so happy people like the Tumblr collections. I'll be doing a symbolic heart post eventually, too.

I'm an early shopper. Always have been. I actually start buying in, like, April. Just, you know, whenever I see something I think someone might like. It makes it easier to spread it all out.

I have too many years of off-list gift disappointments. Although mckitterick has come through with some jim-dandy surprises in the years we've been together.

You might check TJ Maxx for good knives. I got my sister a set of great ones there a couple of years ago for the exact reason you cite.

This is where I can again tell the story of back when I was little (had to be 9 or younger because my sister moved out when I was 9), I walked in my sleep and went into our closet (my sister and I shared a room) and peed in my sister's super awesome Frye boot.

Dayyum! Niiice boots!! I also admire your taste in knives. Knives, boots--two of my favorite things. The Sparrowhawk used to sharpen my parents' knives for them whenever we visited. They were just like your mother's. ". . . I am terrified of her cheap, dull knives." So true!

Henckles knives purchased! I got her a 6" utility knife and a 7" santoku knife. I hope she likes them.
