Funny, the word pinafore isn't used hardly at all here, and if it is, would be a sort of frilly apron-like garment (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~looper/pinafore.htm), usually worn by little girls now, with an Easter dress or something, unless they're members of a modestly-dressing religious group.
