Lilacs
This morning I brought in to work what are probably the last of my lilacs. There are still plenty on the bushes out back, but I'm betting they don't last through the weekend. Sad. They smell so perfect. I love them. Three different shades of purple, from the lightest pastel possible to a dark near-magenta. They're gorgeous and I'm missing them before they're even gone.
Next week I'll start harvesting the irises for office decor. While irises are my favorite flower looks-wise, nothing is better than lilac smell. When I am an old woman, will wear lilac perfume since I look godawful in purple.
Our next major landscaping project (besides the screened in porch) will be to tear out the scrubbery on the south side of our lawn (the side that separates us from Calder Picket). I would like to put up some sort of durable trellis (can you make trellis out of PVC pipe?) and grow honeysuckle up it. Lilacs to the north and honeysuckle on the south. I could have two of my favorite smells of childhood to both sides of me. I don't think they have a Reese's Miniature Peanut Butter Cup tree yet.
