Lilacs

This morning I brought in to work what are probably the last of my lilacs. There are still plenty on the bushes out back, but I'm betting they don't last through the weekend. Sad. They smell so perfect. I love them. Three different shades of purple, from the lightest pastel possible to a dark near-magenta. They're gorgeous and I'm missing them before they're even gone.

Next week I'll start harvesting the irises for office decor. While irises are my favorite flower looks-wise, nothing is better than lilac smell. When I am an old woman, will wear lilac perfume since I look godawful in purple.

Our next major landscaping project (besides the screened in porch) will be to tear out the scrubbery on the south side of our lawn (the side that separates us from Calder Picket). I would like to put up some sort of durable trellis (can you make trellis out of PVC pipe?) and grow honeysuckle up it. Lilacs to the north and honeysuckle on the south. I could have two of my favorite smells of childhood to both sides of me. I don't think they have a Reese's Miniature Peanut Butter Cup tree yet.

I think the fact that chocolate doesn't grow on trees is in my best interest.

Laugh. If that were the case, could we expect Lawrence's trees to look like this?

Yup, and we won't post what we could expect *me* to look like.

I want one when that variety is available! Seriously though, the smells of childhood are strong ties and you've picked such lovely ones.

ditto on the lilacs and honeysuckle

I have two little infant lilacs I transplanted under my bedroom window when I moved two years ago; they have grown some but still no blossoms. They may need more sun than they get; I may need to transplant them. I have a good growth of honeysuckle on the back fence, but it is too far from windows and doors and sitting places in the yard. My next gardening priority is to get my iris bed planted in front.
