I just remembered this
Sixteen years ago today I got my tongue pierced.
Random facts about my tongue piercing:
roya_spirit, bless her heart, drove me to and from my appointment at Extremus in Kansas City, MO.
Mick Noland, my piercer, died (much much much too young) from a heart attack in 1998.
I published the essay about my experience getting pierced on an online zine (a rarity in 1996!).
The top anchor ball has come loose in my mouth three times, but I've only swallowed it once.
Reports as to its effectiveness during oral sex are inconclusive. No, I'm not telling how many people weighed in on the issue.
My dentists have always been amazed at how my teeth show no damage from the stud, despite my never having given up the stainless steel model.
The main reason I didn't get a second one done (smaller, and slightly forward of the existing one) is I didn't want to get pierced by anyone but Mick.
Sometimes I think about removing it, but I don't want to deal with the hassle of it healing. Letting one's ears heal up is gross enough. Imagine that with a tongue? Ew. I'll probably go to my grave with this thing still in my mouth.

I'm so glad you found the article still there about Mick. Such fond memories. I wish I still had my piercing.
(oh, and Jason! wow, that brought back some memories too)

Time, geez...
This memory made me laugh because Veatch first meet you close to after you had it done because I remember him saying he thought you were deaf because of the way you talked at first. Hahahahaha.

I so sounded like a deaf person. And (I think) at the time, I'd just finished the ASL class where our GTA was deaf. I'd been hearing that deaf accent for four months, and having it come out of my own mouth was just weird.

I took the ear studs out YEEEEARS ago, they were never gross, but they never closed up. I can still get posts through each of those holes.
Whew, what a relief that you only swallowed one of your balls! :)
