There is never enough money or time

My oven is on the blink. A few months ago, it started giving off a strong gas smell (and, once, an unnerving WHOOMP sound) when I bypassed the preheat setting and just set it to the bake temperature (thus avoiding the annoying beep-beep-beep-beep once it reaches temperature). Now it gives a strong gas smell when I use the pre-heat. Not good. Steve's Appliance Repair will be out tomorrow between 9:00 and noon. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] roya_spirit, for your Yelp review. Saved me asking around here.

Really hope I don't need a new oven. Really hoping, here.

I'll be at The Latenight Callers show tomorrow night. Will you?

This weekend I start serious work on The Coat.

Hoping you don't need a new oven either.

Want Coat.

I am so terrified of gas stoves, I would have moved outta the house until it was fixed. Hope it's not too complicated to resolve. :)

You and me both. =D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha ha! The first time it happened (the time with the sound effect to boot), I was all "THE HELL???" and the adrenaline kick enabled me to pull the stove out all by myself so I could check the gas lines.

I got over my fear of gas stoves when I spent the summer of 1987 in Italy. The family I stayed with had a gas stove with no pilot light. You had to turn on the gas and light the burner with a match. Then I went into metalsmithing where lit our blowtorches with hand-held mechanical sparkers.

Haven't lost any eyebrows yet! =D

Our stove was like that in Brussels, too. Whenever it was my turn to cook, I'd put together something cold or raw, or else use the electric griddle. I shit you not. I am *seriously* pyrophobic.

Made it awfully hard to be an altar server as a kid, too, not being able to use a lighter. Gah.

OMG you poor thing. Phobias are annoying, nasty things. *pat*pat*

It's probably not clinical; I'm being melodramatic. :) I've carefully developed some confidence in fire-building during my recent time with the Boy Scouts, which is good. Gotta make sure I can survive the Zombie Apocalypse, and be generally useful to The Revolution, dontcha know. But I still get veryveryvery nervous.

Good on you for fighting your fear!

You're welcome, I'm glad that sent more work his way. Fingers crossed for your oven.

Alas, I'll be otherwise engaged tomorrow night, or I would join you.

I was relieved to see a review, and a review that I knew I could trust!

Oh god I hope you don't need a new oven. I spent 9 months without one myself.

Sweet Jesus. The very idea sends me into a panic. I think I might make it nine hours without one...

I got myself an electric skillet and a rice cooker (which also doubled as a vegetable steamer). It wasn't TOO bad but man it was not what I would want to do voluntarily ever again.

I bought a new stove/oven last summer. ouch. I hope you don't need a new one!

That's a sassy coat!

Oh, I hope I don't need a new oven, either.

Re: the coat--INORITE?!?! It's gonna be beautiful!

Appliances these days, seriously, they are wonderful and they suck.

My stove is the only one of my modern appliances that has behaved.

I am also voting for fixable!

Engineered obsolescence makes me angry.

And thank you for the "useful" ticky box on my review.
