Taking advantage of free WiFi to post content-free crap that nobody cares about

Free WiFi. It inspires posts that are the blog equivalent of eating crap food in the consuite because it's there and it's free. While I'm not going to indulge in the consuite food, I'm totally taking advantage of the free internet.

This just happened: Gardner Dozois walked in front of me and said "Oh, look, birdie," and pointed to a sparrow that had landed on the mezzanine in the hotel.

[livejournal.com profile] msmitti and I arrived at the hotel at 3:00, got checked in, did a round of the dealer's room, checked out the consuite, and then sat out in the mezzanine area where there's great natural light while I hemmed Sherlock. Quite a few people got some chuckles out of that, including the Masquerade organizer. I finished it, though, and we had a bottle of wine open by 5:30.

I showed [livejournal.com profile] msmitti the trick of pouring booze into a covered coffee cup so you can get your drink on anywhere in the hotel. Like, you know, Opening Ceremonies. When you really need it.

I'm more than a little irritated that the one panel I wanted to attend took place at 3:00 Friday. What the fuck, programming?

I just watched a woman walk by me wearing giant wedge heels and with the worst posture and gait imaginable. I have no idea how she continues to move in a forward direction. Seriously. I can't imagine the state of her back. Or hips. Or knees. Jesus.

Anyway, what the fuck programming? I'm tempted to go to the Anne McCaffrey Memorial Panel, but it would probably just be frustrating because I seriously doubt there will be other snarkers there. Also, I'm friends with someone on the panel and he doesn't deserve my mean-spiritedness. I might go to the Costuming in Fandom panel. I'm here...I should go to one panel, and this one seems to be Relevant To My Interests. Interestingly, there is no Sunday panel for the Masquerade contestants, which is too bad. I like seeing some of the costumes laid out on the table, and being able to get a closer look at construction.

Someone else just walked by me, a guy, wearing a leather top hat, a blackwatch plaid kilt, a gorgeous tux jacket with tails, white socks and black suede loafer house shoes. OH SF PEOPLE.

It's been nearly two weeks since I made it to CrossFit, and my left hip is hurting pretty consistently again. Interesting, no?

These little sparrows in the hotel are adorable. I need some more coffee. Wonder how horrible the stuff in the consuite is. Probably pretty damn horrible.

I love junk-food updates! Keep 'em coming! And you are taking hella photos while there, yes? Please say you are.

See, I would totally go with you to that panel. And wear a bandolier of tent pegs.

My willpower is usually strong when it comes to consuite food. But... eventually there is a massive tub of little chocolate donuts and the will begins to crumble.

Oh, why do people not understand how important the right pair of shoes is? :(

Are you sure you weren't magically transported to Portland?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-26 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I got a lot of drunk photos last night...I promise lots of pics of Sherlock and Watson from tonight, though. =D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-26 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-26 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, man there was a box of doughnuts in one of the room parties last night...

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-26 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
For. Real.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-26 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha ha ha ha! I think if I was in Portland, we might have better coffee.

[identity profile] dotar-sojat.livejournal.com 2012-05-27 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
But were they the little chocolate donuts? With LCDs it does not matter if they are Dolly Madison, or Little Debbie or some nameless store brand. LCDs always taste the same. THE EXACT SAME.

Truly, the great cullinary equalizer.

I showed msmitti the trick of pouring booze into a covered coffee cup so you can get your drink on anywhere...

In the mommy club, we call this clandes-wine (or clandes-tini, clandes-garita, clandes-mosa, etc.). For longer events, you may even have to resort to a Big Gulp type of cup! :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-27 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that you have an acronym for them.

No, they weren't LCDs. They were from a local bakery, and one of them in the box was My Favorite Doughnut Ever. The sour-cream cake type doughnut, pictured in my icon.

We talked a friend of ours into eating it for me. It was like watching porn.

Incorporating this word into my vocabulary right now.

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2012-05-27 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
My favorite, too! Good thing I was absent. I am sorry I did not get to see the Sherlock, but everyone would have been WAY sorry to get the flu. Who knew I had that many muscles to ache?

[identity profile] grnvixen.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigh, you are making me miss masquerades :).

I don't know if I've mentioned it, but we have a boat, and are on the lake A LOT during the summer, to the point of getting sea legs on a regular basis.

1) The boat is a 25 foot cabin cruiser, so, since it has a locking door, is considered a residence for purposes of search. Therefore, we keep all the alcohol below decks; and

2) We use those 32oz insulated mugs for mixing our drinks. No one (of the police persuasion, that is) has ever even asked us what's in them.

Sherlock turned out very well indeed. :)

Thank you!
