Here's to the "dealing with it" half

I think I found my next international vacation destination. I need to do a little more research about how stable these things are, because I'm a little worried they'd trigger my sensitive motion-sickness issues, but if it sounds like I'd be okay, sign me the fuck up for a barge tour. I have no words for how absolutely amazing that sounds. Right now, please.

Speaking of Things I Want: This Placemat. For. Real. People. I want it. I want several. THESE WOULD NEVER LEAVE OUR DINING TABLE.

Speaking of Dining: Last night was another lesson in Things I Can't Eat Anymore. I love those lessons, let me tell you. Checker's had Bing Cherries on sale for $3.48/lb, so I bought a little bag (about a pound and a half), thinking that would be a spectacular treat for the evening. Well...it was certainly spectacular. I admit I ate a lot, but I intended to! It was a treat! I ate probably half the bag (about a cereal bowl's worth), and half an hour later I was bloated and uncomfortable like whoa. My stomach was hard to the touch, and the peripheral swelling (back, sides) was minimal, so this was largely gas bloat, not tissue swelling. Misery. [livejournal.com profile] redheadfae, I wonder if my gradual decrease in fruit consumption has caused my body to slip into fructose malabsorption. Gonna have to do some digging on what foods have a higher fructose than glucose content since my Google-fu is not spectacular (except when it comes to GIFs) and I'm having problems finding a simple list. Grump.

Ah, well. Live and learn, right? Preach it, Henry.

I'm still a little swollen this morning, but Kiva got things moving with this morning's session (thank goodness). She told me to take it easy today--no heavy exertion--which makes me a little sad because today's WOD looks pretty awesome:
Warm-up:
25 Squats
20 Wallball (20/16)
15 Power Skips each leg
10 Tuck Jumps
5 Burpees
Skill:
Press 3×10
Push Press 10×3
Front Squats 8×8
Pull-up Progressions:
-Hollow/Superman
-Bar Kipping
-Active Shoulders
WOD:
Mini “Cindy” 7 minute AMRAP
5 Pull-ups
10 Push-ups
15 Squats

Today's schedule is chock-full of things I can either do well, or things I need work on. Also, I am dying to watch these people skip around the box. I wonder if people would look askance at me if I did everything but the WOD. Hm.

Um. So this is sexy. And creepy. And an example of some amazingly good video editing.

For those of you who aren't hip to the reference, that is Lady Gaga kissing Jo Calderone. Her drag alter-ego. So that's Gaga kissing herself. Wow. WOW AND LOVE.

This is one of the best tattoos I've ever seen. SFW. Grab a tissue if you're feeling emotionally delicate, though.

I have the linkage and list for you, will send later, but for now, I'll leave you this for cheers-up

NOM

Here's hoping neither of them are high fructose.

And thank you in advance for the forthcoming list!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
OH.

Cherries bad.

The problem with cherries is that they contain a huge amount of total sugar and fructose compared to most other fruits.

Welp, there ya go. You're not developing it, you just hit the near highest fructose fruit you can eat. :(

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)

Well, you know me. Go big or go home.

[identity profile] bluetourmaline.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVE cherries. Feeling sad on your behalf that they have to go.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I love them, too. Alas for me, if something causes a reaction like this, it's best I cut it out in any amount.

So eat some cherries for me this summer, okay?

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)

:fistbump:

Anything worth doing...

Anything worth doing...

...is worth doing to excess!

That is full of awesome.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
OH THAT IS A FABULOUS GIF AND ALSO BARGES!

Everything in this post requires capslock.

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been on a barge, and they are AWESOME. Since I don't get travel sickness, I can't testify to their motion-sickness inducing potency, but for the most part, barges are very slow moving and stick to rivers and canals, so you should be okay. I don't know what you've used to combat the motion sickness in the past, but my mother's used a ginger-based version before, and it worked out well for her.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, ginger doesn't work for me. Mine's not a stomach-based nausea. It's a weird inner-ear vertigo thing that can be triggered by something as simple as turning around in my office chair too fast. HATE IT.

Um, looking at your icon...you've seen this tumblr (http://fuckyeahhockeyladies.tumblr.com/), yes?

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm-can you use those motion sickness patches? They tend to work on inner-ear as well as nausea, since the balance-out-of-whack is what causes the nausea, from what I understand.

And I've had that exact thing happen to me! I was falling asleep on a car ride; we stopped, and I shook my head to wake myself up, and LITERALLY GOT A CASE OF BED-SPINS (without the bed, of course, and without one drop of alcohol!). My eyes wouldn't even hold still, my equilibrium was so fucked up! It scared me half to death.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
can you use those motion sickness patches?

Those ones that go behind the ear? I've never tried them. To be honest, I'm so terrified of getting motion sick these days that I avoid any and all situations that have even the potential to make me wobbly.

CrossFit has a couple standard movements that, when I can eventually do them correctly, might trigger my motion-sickness issues. Perhaps I'll give them a try then.

The wristband thing does not work for me.

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man that is awful. :/

... no I had not. omg. *runs to add it*

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I love sharing good Tumblr discoveries.

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that tattoo. Single manly tear.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[identity profile] femfataleatron.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Lo0ve of barges! This would be awesome and I would never leave... I could totally sculpt on a barge.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Where would you put it? The barge, I mean...

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
If I had remained in Seattle, eventually I would have purchased a barge-home.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor, sad Pluto.

Lady Gaga - of course.

That tattoo? Immediately makes me think of Supernatural, and not in a way I'd want on my body....

OH! And you, on a boat? You might want to reconsider this....

Poor, sad Pluto.

I KNOW. ;__;

And you, on a boat? You might want to reconsider this....

Well, yes. Hence my caution. But she says it doesn't move much. They don't even have to fasten things down. Note the basket of fruit sitting on the side table in one of the photos.

[identity profile] annamatic.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That tattoo made me misty. I thought at one time of getting Miles' birth footprints from the hospital tattooed over my heart.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Such an awesome tattoo. And the placement is so so so perfect.

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-05-31 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Bummer about the cherries, but if it's just gas, at least that's sort of fixable by moderation-whereas the other reaction can't be, other than by avoidance (Shut up, Carm; it's not your health).

And now that you're not eating them, have you ever tried
Rainier cherries? They are one of those happy accidents: someone was experimenting with crossing two tart pie cherries, and ended up with a wonderful sweet cherry that looks like a little non-fuzzy peach, all yellow and red!

That tat is gorgeous.

I have weird reactions to tattoos. I saw a guy last weekend who had his child's footprints tattooed on his ribcage (sort of as if he was holding the baby, and it put it's feet on his side, to give an idea of where), and while I've seen that sort of tattoos before, for some reason I wasn't very impressed with it.

But that handprint is really cool, and is placed just right, as if his dad has his arm around him.

With my Super Speshul Issues, I've found that one is related to the other and repeated exposure to a trigger makes the reaction worse every time. So it's best to just leave something alone if I find it causes any sort of reaction. =(

[identity profile] fitfool.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
oof....that seems like a hard workout even when you're feeling good. If I tried that mini-Cindy, I'd be stuck trying to do those 5 pull-ups :P

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I did everything but the WOD (the mini-Cindy), and I did everything at either bodyweight or with an empty bar. Wasn't too bad! And I feel better for having gone.

[identity profile] anomali.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
http://www.tummytrubble.com/fructose-malabsorbtion/triggers/ has a really big list of the various risk levels of different foods.

I am sorry that it seems that cherries must go. They were such a part of my family's almost ritual summer noms that it would be emotionally wrenching for me to have to bid them adieu.

I shared the placemat with my astrology friends and I have duly bookmarked the barge website under "European Travel".

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that link is perfect! Thank you so much.

I'm sorry that cherries are out, too. But I don't let myself get too down about food that get nixed. When wine has to go, that's when I'll be a Very Sad Panda.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-06-02 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
That's a great list!

Here's the one I was thinking about:
http://www.healthhype.com/nutrition-guide-for-fructose-malabsorption.html

Also, there is a caveat at the bottom concerning people who have it to a lesser degree, so ignore the wine recs ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-06-02 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

I totally want to do one of those houseboat tours in the Kerala backwater in India. Barges are awesome.

Also, those are the best placemats in the history of the universe. Even though Neil Degrasse Tyson is pretty cool, I'm still sad for Pluto.

Also, that is an awesome & powerful tattoo. I have wanted something similar (though slightly more romantic) for years because of the line in the Susanne Vega song - "All the fingerprints on me from you."

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
No lie, I had never heard of a barge tour before that article. They sound amazing!

If I find the placemats, I'll let you know.

[identity profile] the-themiscyran.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
My boss at the library where I worked in New Jersey was a big fan of barge/riverboat/water tours. She and her husband traveled all over Europe that way - wherever there was a river option, they took it.
