And boy are my arms tired

I went to CrossFit again this morning. Holy Fucking Shit.

Warm-Up:
200m Run
10 Hand Release Push-ups
15 Squats

Skill:
Press 9×7 (I used the unweighted narrow-barbell, which I think is 30#)

WOD:
"Bradshaw"
10 rounds for time:
3 Handstand Push-Ups I tried to do a tri-pod headstand followed by three push-ups, but slipped coming down out of the headstand the second time, so just did five push-ups on the following rounds
6 Deadlift @ (225/155) I did 115# which, btw, was my max deadlift when I started CrossFit
12 Pull-ups I did ring rows
24 Double-Unders I still don't have double-unders, so 48 singles for me

I did five rounds before I had to pack it up to go home. I am so so so sore right now. Shit. Ow. Even my damned forearms ache. Let's not talk about how my thighs feel. I might take tomorrow off as a recovery day--do some mobility work and active yoga in the morning instead of going to the box. Because wow. Wow. I need a day to heal up and build up.

Sunday I did my first ever work on a car! It was awesome. Proof of the awesome:

exhaust pipe removal
Here I am, removing the passenger-side exhaust pipe. It fell on me, despite us having it jacked up. It didn't hit me in the face, though, so we're all good.

upper control arm
This is me removing the bolt of the passenger side upper control arm. Or, rather, me attempting to remove the bolt of the passenger side upper control arm. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick eventually had to take over because this was a bitch. My attempts at removing this resulted in my only two injuries of the day. I was pushing as hard as I could with the left hand and pulling as hard as I could with the right--to the point where I was lifting my body off the floor. When my grip broke on the wrenches I was pulling (pictured here), I slammed the knuckles on my left hand into the gas tank and scraped the inside of my right arm on I don't know what--a couple days later there's a bruise forming under the scrape, too, so that's awesome.

After three and a half hours, we had both exhaust pipes and rear shocks out. The springs and control arms are just about ready to get pulled, too. We were expecting company, so had to wrap it up before 4:00.

done for the day
Chernobyl Red First Day of Auto Work Commemorative Photo

Believe it or not, I was actually filthier than the photo shows. When I washed my hair out, the water ran gray.

Tonight: sewing and chatty time with [livejournal.com profile] bestill.

Damn you're Awesome.

Love that gif!

Sounds like you two need to invest in some cheater bars, and some anti-seize goop!

Did you see the new icon/gif that someone had on ONTD-P yesterday of Lochte nearly stripping his trunks off in front of the camera?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
We have some breaker bars, but without putting the car on a lift, there was no way to get one far enough under to reach the bolt.

Did you see the new icon/gif that someone had on ONTD-P yesterday of Lochte nearly stripping his trunks off in front of the camera?

WAT. NO. Which post?

Here's the link:

That should take you to the thread. The starting post has the icon, the gif is further down in the thread....

Two days in a row of tough work-outs, not a good idea, but you know that now.

I used to "help" my brother work on my car. Mostly, I just handed him things and shined the light. I did learn that it is very dirty under cars and things tend to fall on a person. Gravity and all that. My brother dropped a transmission on his leg and the swearing was epic! I think he kicked a hole in the garage wall, too.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be okay with two days in a row once I'm in better shape. I'd like to stick with a MTRF schedule at CrossFit (Wednesdays and weekends off). I don't know if I can hold to that during the run of KCRF, but I'll do my best.

Holy crap I would cry if a transmission fell on my leg. How in the world was he able to kick something after that?

[identity profile] pamelonian.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a small transmission from a 1977 Datsun B210 hatchback. Damn, I loved that little car! I think being 18 years old had a lot to do with his ability to get up and kick. The transmission probably bounced off him!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Those old Datsuns are adorable. The 1969-1973 Datsun 240Z is one of my favorite cars.

Super sassy car pix!! YOU GO!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Wooo! How awesome would it be if you could come take some pics when we're done with it!?!?

[identity profile] siro-gravity.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Not as awesome as these...unless you're in them -covered with car-gunk, of course!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course!!!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)

Go you!
I'm a firm believer in headgear for auto work. Those fluids and old dirt can be hell on da crownin' glory.

And maybe knuckle tape, haha!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
What headgear do you recommend? My hair won't fit in a cap.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)

Big headscarf, a la Rosie here.

When I worked on my car w/ my dad, I'd put my waist-length hair in two braids, cross/wind them over my head, pin 'em up, and then tie a big bandana round my head from back to front.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Braids! Of course. *facepalm* Why didn't I think of that?

I'll be bandana-ing it next time, for sure. Thank you!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)

You're welcome.
Of course you didn't think of it, not like we wake up and go "hmm.. what's the most hillbilly look I can rock today, and how can I make it more attractive?"

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd think seven years in the rockabilly scene would've encouraged that line of thought, though.

Image

*on the nose*

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
but then, I tend to think "braids" and go:

Image

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
...but then you don't get as dirty, and where's the fun in that?

Image

(Though, to be honest, I DO wear long sleeves, jeans, and gloves in the summer while working on cars....)

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)

Well, it's a good thing I'm off early today, my afternoon concentration is now toast.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Need a ride home? So, y'know, you get home sooner?

Image

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
At this point, I'm going to need a cigarette on the walk home.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME HERE? JESUS CHRIST, MAN.

Also, I'll get plenty dirty. It'll be really nice to keep my hair out of that crap. Hair doesn't wash as well as skin, and takes a beating more easily.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Good idea.

Heh heh, "takes a beating."

You guys need to get a room!

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Plus if you are using a creeper, it hurts like hell to run over your hair with it!

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like you're speaking from experience.

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, yes. And a ponytail doesn't do a DAMN thing to keep it out of the way! Found that out the hard way, too.

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Way to WOD the shit out of that, uh, WOD. RAWR. I has smrt today. :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Coach Thomas said my presses looked great! Wooooo!

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You're such a BaddAss.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

That last photo:

"Rosie the rivet-who?"

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-07 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha ha! When I'm happy with my arm definition, I'm definitely doing a recreation photo of that. And next time, I'll even have the hair bandana, per [livejournal.com profile] redheadfae's suggestion.

[identity profile] amjhawk.livejournal.com 2012-08-08 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's a question for you:

Would you mind if I tagged along for a WoD or a few next week?

I'm super interested, saw they have drop-in options, but don't want to cramp your style.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-08-09 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind at all! I have no style at CrossFit. I'm just a sweaty, gasping mess. The 6:00am workouts have gone really well for me so far. Not too hot, and it's nice to get it done as early as possible.
