Along with Avengers stuff (and Tom Hiddleston in general), Supernatural, Dr. Who, and Sherlock take up probably three-quarters of the stuff posted on Tumblr. At least that's so on my dash. So there's this thing called Superwholock. Supernatural, Dr. Who, and Sherlock. Do a YouTube search for Superwholock. There's a zillion fanvids, some of them pretty fucking amazing. I mean, I would watch the shit out of this movie or show:

mckitterick and I finally made it to see Skyfall yesterday. It was AMAZINGLY GOOD. I have one, just one teensy tiny quibble about one teensy tiny part of the movie, but otherwise it was great. There were a couple things I had to hash out in my brain afterward because they didn't quite make sense while I was watching (character motivation stuff), but once I got them figured out (in my mind, at least), I was cool with them. Except for Javier Bardem's hair. WTF, makeup crew? But the franchise has very successfully redeemed itself from Quantum of Solace. WELL DONE.

I was particularly pleased that I figured out two plot points/twists pretty early in the movie and was proved right about them. *smug* And I'm not Adele's biggest fan, but her song is perfect. And the opening credits are amazing. Except for the dragons.

That is AWESOME! Not knowing Dr. Who makes me feel it's not necessary for this show; the mashup of Supernatural and Sherlock is plenty! That last moment is perfect.

No, not necessary at all. I think all you need to know is the groundwork of Dr. Who mythology, and you watched it back in the 70s/80s, right? The basics haven't changed much, from what I can tell.

I posted another Superwholock vid a long time ago that was even better, but perhaps alas, it was before I started noting things with the vid tag and I can't find it.

I suspect they just fell in love with the imagery. A big part of the movie uses dragons, so they have a good excuse ;-)

Ugh... three sausage fest shows in one, all of whom have pretty dodgy records on women in their storylines? Count me out. (Yes, I'm cranky about this shit. I cannot watch anything that refuses to treat women like living human beings instead of merely being sources of man pain or angst any more).

I admit that I am bummed that most of my favorite movies/TV shows fail the Bechdel test abysmally. On the other hand, my reading habits often pass with flying colors--I tend to like sci-fi and fantasy, and most of my fave authors are women.

....I know that part of it is that the entertainment industry is run by men, but I sometimes wonder if it's a lust--the very few TV shows I watch, I tend to enjoy so much because I find one of the male leads particularly attractive.

I like Due South for largely lusty reasons, but that was a show that actually treated its women characters like human beings and not stereotypes. It's not impossible, it's just really difficult to find in current tv offerings. My personal show of choice right now is Burn Notice, which, while not being SF or fantasy, IMO passes the Bechdel test and then some.
