Wow, I don't have a gif for that

Oooookaaaaay, so I'm just going to be over here for the rest of the day, jacking off to the sound of Benedict Cumberbatch's voice in the Star Trek teaser trailer.

MY. GOD.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pennswoods for the link to the Japanese subtitled one with the few seconds of extra footage.

I've heard Tumblr has exploded since this clip was released. I'm not a little terrified of what my dashboard is going to look like this morning. I need a GIRDING MY LOINS gif.

Do you think it's Khan?

[identity profile] pennswoods.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
TUMBLR IS AN EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL PLACE THAN USUAL BECAUSE OF THIS NOW!!! AND I CANNOT STOP SCREAMING IN CAPSLOCK!!

TIME TO GO TO THE GYM SO I CAN WORK OFF THIS SEXUAL FRUSTRATION!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno. I hope not. Lots of problems with this if he's Khan, not the least of which is I'm REALLY TIRED of whitewashing in entertainment media. Also, the timeline is all wrong for this to be Khan.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

I hadn't thought of the POC aspect.

10 hours until I can watch it.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's worth the wait. Enjoy!

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it has exploded.

This was the first time I saw the trailer!

OH GOD THAT VOICE.
He could recite the OED and I'd get off on it!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the quote that you and [livejournal.com profile] pennswoods reblogged:

As far as the idea that Sherlockians will somehow corrupt the Trek fandom with our perversions and insanity, well, Trek fandom practically invented the modern idea of obsession and slashfic.

So, fellow Trekkers, let me just say this:

"You think your world is safe? It is an illusion.
A comforting lie told to protect you.
Enjoy these final moments of peace."

BRILLIANT!

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW, RIGHT?!

Oh, this is going to be a fantastic year for movies. I may DIE of anticipation, but what a way to go! :D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, the stuff coming out in the next twelve months is overwhelming.

The Hobbit 1
Hansel and Gretel
Die Hard in Russia (or whatever it's called)
Oz
Iron Man 3
The Great Gatsby*
Star Trek 2
Sin City
The Hobbit 2

And that's just the ones I'm pretty excited about.

* I know, one of these things is not like the others

[identity profile] etcet.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
... they're remaking sin city already? what the actual fuck?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a remake. They're doing A Dame to Kill For.

[identity profile] frugurl27.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I the only remaining non-Cumberbitch in the universe?

That said, that trailer has me all kinds of excited - but Star Trek fangirl excited, not Cumberbatch excited. :P

The voice characteristics would be all wrong for Khan as well. I've seen hints that he may be Romulan?

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

Hmm.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)

No, you're not. I see the appeal, but he doesn't trip my trigger.
I could be Zach Quinto excited, myself.

[identity profile] frugurl27.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU. Also, Chris Pine is looking pretty nice - poor guy seems to be overlooked by the fan contingent.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
PLEASE GOD ROMULAN YES.

But I doubt he will be. They used Romulans last time.

That synopsis sounds a lot like Skyfall. Hm.

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, they don't all have to be action movies! ;)

I may have to go see The Great Gatsby, although I don't usually like "normal" movies (at least, not enough to pay theater prices). I don't recall if I ever actually saw the entirety of the 1974 version, with Robert Redford (I nearly put "the original on there, then went to look it up-it's been made four times, plus one TV version!).

I'm not sure if DeCaprio can match Redford's style or not. I like Leo, but Redford was one of my first loves.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not a Cumberbatch girl, I just can't deny the quality of his voice. I mean. DAMN. But I'm still a Hiddleston devotee. Yes.

[identity profile] frugurl27.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll agree to that. Hiddleston is about a billion times more attractive, IMO, so we're on the same page there. AND LOOK AT THAT WINK.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Leo will make a very fine Gatsby. However, I'll be going for the costumes.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, clarification (that I sorta made in your LJ post about this)--I didn't mean the movie timeline, I meant just the age of the characters, etc. Quoting myself, here, in case this generates discussion on my post: " I just don't see how this Khan can have a hate-on for Kirk yet. I mean...when has Kirk had time to destroy Khan's family/life? And without the specific revenge on Kirk, what's the point of Khan's anger? I mean, yeah, Khan hates Starfleet blah blah, but what he really wants to destroy is James T. Kirk. And there just hasn't been enough time for that sort of animosity to have developed. It seems really forced and inappropriate and I just hope Abrams is a better writer than that."

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)

Unfortunately, it does point to Khan, as rumoured, especially with Benicio Del Toro originally offered the part. He turned it down.
Hopefully they've chosen another villain.

Who were some of Capt Kirk's other nemeses? Q? Mitchell? I'm seeing them named as possibilities. It's intriguing. Here's that entire synopsis:

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes "Star Trek Into Darkness."

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

So, he's going to lose his remaining family, we see that now.
