Being green
I would like to watch this movie.
Down for the count today with cramps. Looks like my cycle is back on schedule, at least. Yay?
Yesterday was a total win, though. Discussed costume options with
tama_grey, bought lots of vegetables at Costco and Natural Grocers (sorry, Merc, they had organic chards and kales, two bunches for $3), cooked said greens (along with five pounds of onions and four heads of garlic) and hung out with
msmitti. Read some LJ and went to bed.
Then woke up at 4am with those cramps. *le sigh*
BTW, five pounds of onions, four heads of garlic, eight bunches of chard, and two Costco-sized bags of baby kale cook down to six two-cup containers of food. Basically, a full sink's-worth of washed, raw greens equals one container of cooked. GREENS ARE MAGIC.
Also, kale chips are totes on today's menu. AWWWW YIIISSSSSSSSSS

It looks like my kale plants are surviving through Yet Another Winter and I have a bunch of heirloom seeds for new baby kale plants (amongst other things).
WILL YOU TAKE SOME KALE FROM ME BECAUSE HOLY SHIT!

Spinach cooks down the most. It's freaky.

Fun to know someone else who is a fiend for greens. I have at least one serving of them a day (~1/2-3/4 cup, cooked). My favorite way to eat them is the Creamy and Spicy version here (http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/2010/01/12/eat-your-vegetables-kale-chard-beet-tops-and-more/), but since spices aren't on my menu right now, I've been making them with just the coconut milk and a splash of coconut aminos. They're still wonderful.
The kale chips last night were awesome, though. SNARF.

Garlic is of course a yummy addition. And greens are improved to a ridiculous degree with a little acid, like lemon juice or balsamic vinegar or tomatoes.
I just started my period, so I might end up eating some kale today. IRON, BITCHES.

Maybe that's why yesterday's kale chips tasted so good.
