My understanding is universities are where you get degrees and education, and colleges are where you get certificates and job-specific training. For example, I got my BA at the University of New Brunswick (Classics/English major, and Fine Arts minor), and I studied jewellery/metal arts at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. There's crossover, for sure, but if you want a trade, you go to college, and if you want a degree, you go to university.
