Pit Girl's Vest

Hamsa iron-on accomplished!

A million thanks to [personal profile] mckitterick for buying the transfer paper when my other offer fell through. I'd forgotten he has an inkjet printer. Instead of using a cotton or jersey fabric, like the stuff is designed for, I ironed the design onto some iridescent raw silk. This had the unexpected result of transferring the design unevenly and crinkly, so it looks old and weathered. Perfect. So perfect, in fact, I'm gonna put my hair in some sort of up-do for Pit Girl because I want the whole world to see this fucking hamsa.

Then I sloppily stitched the silk to the jacket with red embroidery thread so it looks sort of outsider-art-ish. I was so pleased with the way the back applique looked that I decided to do a similar treatment to the front yoke panels, the right side using the same raw silk as the back piece, and the left a dark brown raw silk. On the brown I painted this, in white:

This is the seal for Marutukku, which is the third name of some guy from the Necronomicon. I tell you, if nothing else, the search for occult images to use on this vest has been entertaining. Some of the shit I've found is so great, it makes me want to re-watch Supernatural. Again. But I think I'll just wait for Season 8 to come out on DVD next month.

I'm still trying to figure out what design to put on the right shoulder...I was thinking a unicursal hexagram, but man, some of the other seals in that site I liked above are pretty cool looking. I dunno. Any thoughts?
