Pit Girl's Vest

Hamsa iron-on accomplished!

A million thanks to [personal profile] mckitterick for buying the transfer paper when my other offer fell through. I'd forgotten he has an inkjet printer. Instead of using a cotton or jersey fabric, like the stuff is designed for, I ironed the design onto some iridescent raw silk. This had the unexpected result of transferring the design unevenly and crinkly, so it looks old and weathered. Perfect. So perfect, in fact, I'm gonna put my hair in some sort of up-do for Pit Girl because I want the whole world to see this fucking hamsa.

Then I sloppily stitched the silk to the jacket with red embroidery thread so it looks sort of outsider-art-ish. I was so pleased with the way the back applique looked that I decided to do a similar treatment to the front yoke panels, the right side using the same raw silk as the back piece, and the left a dark brown raw silk. On the brown I painted this, in white:

This is the seal for Marutukku, which is the third name of some guy from the Necronomicon. I tell you, if nothing else, the search for occult images to use on this vest has been entertaining. Some of the shit I've found is so great, it makes me want to re-watch Supernatural. Again. But I think I'll just wait for Season 8 to come out on DVD next month.

I'm still trying to figure out what design to put on the right shoulder...I was thinking a unicursal hexagram, but man, some of the other seals in that site I liked above are pretty cool looking. I dunno. Any thoughts?

I'm so glad this is working!

I'm spent on ideas since I've been doing my biz card and car magnet this week. I got nuttin'.

Ideas for...?

Edit: Oh! I see what you mean. No, I'm not looking for design ideas, just thoughts on if I should use that hexagram or one of the Necronomicon seals I linked.

My main idea thought is Keep It Simple.

You don't want to invite conversation about Necronomicon, (which it will for any geeks of that persuasion), you want to invite conversation on the book, make sense?

Easy enough to avoid that conversation. "You should know better than to talk about that sort of thing." =D

HAHAHAH!

Those Necronomicon symbols are pretty sweet, whereas the hexagram sort of reminds me of a cheap metal band. I'm especially partial to numbers 4, 8, and 36.

As always, I'm in awe of your crafting abilities. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

You are so right about the hexagram. Thanks for the spot.

I'm so looking forward to seeing pics of this!

Me, too! =D

It looks awesome! Pics coming soon.

yay, you got it to work!
My opinion about the unicursal hexagram = no. It reminds me of a skateboard logo and is too uniform and planned-out looking. The seals are cool...they remind me of personal ritualistic symbols, or like secret bits of communication.

do we get pix?

Yep, I wound up nixing the hexagram and using a symbol that...I...don't remember what it means. =D

And yes, pics soon!
