Happy August

Hey, look. A Ben Stiller movie that I'd see voluntarily.

Have I mentioned I pretty much wear Wacoal bras exclusively? If I didn't already, this ad would have sold me.

I rinsed out Pit Girl's vest and, alas, lost a lot of the dingy tones. I couldn't stand smelling like old, cheap, coffee, though. I'm going to bake it again tonight, this time just barely spritz-damp, to see if I can get some of that singed look back. Then I'll hit it with some acrylic paint on a dry brush for dirt and other mysterious stains. I decided to do a sigil on the back because yesterday I learned how to make name sigils and they're actually pretty fun. I made a sigil for Valentine, the name of the murdered girl in Zobop Bebop (which, BTW, are REALLY FUCKING DIFFICULT WORDS TO TYPE, [livejournal.com profile] sdemory) to paint on the back. I also made one for "Teenie," which is her nickname. Not sure which I'll use.

About this sigil-making. You just take the letters of the word/name and arrange them (somewhat aesthetically) around a center point. Then you make a circle around the design, evenly space the letters of the word/name, and add another circle around that. Ta da! Sigil. Here are the sigils I made for Valentine and Teenie. They'll look a lot better when they're done out on graph paper for even spacing. And when I have a compass.

I practiced making them yesterday in a meeting I was at for a campus-wide project group (we're overhauling the KU Course Catalog YAY!) because the meeting was mind-bendingly dull. So I was doodling away on my sigils and then realized the guy one chair down from me (there was an empty seat between us) was totally looking at my notebook. So now I'm pretty sure at least one representative from KU Marketing and Communications thinks I'm a Satanist.

On tonight's agenda:

Vest--Spritz with water, bake. Paint sigil. If paint dries quickly enough, singe holes.
Arm warmer/sleeves--I'm using this trick to give her some sleeves. I don't know how cold the vendor area will be and I don't want to walk around sleeveless for two days in a freezing cold hotel exhibition ballroom. So I gotta cut those up and distress them at the elbows and wrist openings, then probably put in a few runs.
Scars--See if my little test scar of glue and tissue paper works on my face for Pit Girl. If it goes well, build a larger one for Dead Girl's arm.
Body Paint--Trial run of Dead Girl's body paint on my upper body, plus her red lipstick, eyeliner, etc.

I hope to get example photographs of both costumes taken this weekend. I'm only a week behind! I really want to find some belts to sling around Pit Girl's hips, damn it. All the belts I found last weekend were either way too small or brown. What I want are just a couple plain, black, men's belts that I can beat up and then hang totems from. I guess men aren't as likely to donate their old belts to thrift stores.

I lifted today. One day of rest after Tuesday was plenty, and that was encouraging. I even woke before my alarm started to go off. My grasshoppers are getting better. I can't touch my shin to my forearm yet, but I can do the jumping switch for each leg instead of re-setting into plank every time.

Haven't heard back from Andrew about the leg fatigue. He usually responds within a couple hours to my messages. Maybe he's researching? That'd be cool.

I have an eye exam this afternoon. I hope I'm not due to have my eyes dilated. That would put a wrench in my plans for the evening. My pupils really hate being dilated, and it takes them forever to shrink back down to normal.

That was a fun ad.

Did you see the one with the car using the same theme?

I did! That ad was brilliant. Can't say it made me want to buy the car, though. This ad? Makes me want to go buy a new bra even though I don't need one right now.

Of course, it's a lot easier to make an eighty dollar impulse purchase than it is to apply for a car loan...

Hopes for no dilating for you!

Um.. gee, I have a pleather black belt that you can have as well. You can always add on another buckle and length of belt if it's not long enough, which would actually be rather cool, plus I can check my scrappage of leather bits.

That Wacoal ad made me bark with laughter! It's too damned bad that they don't fit me.

I'd love to swing by to at least look at the belt. And I can look at the tongue thing, too!

Maybe Sunday early afternoon? Email me to let me know if that works.

We can probably do that. Check in with me then.

And you'll want to see the Leaf Vitality as well. I had it right in front of us on the counter!

So.. three things. That will help me remember.

Great! I'll call you when I'm done with my Sunday morning session with Andrew, and see how you're feeling/what you're up to then.

Please forgive if you've already tried this for scarring and I missed the reference...

Way back, when I was a senior at KU, we did Tobacco Road, and we had to "built" an old-lady face on toppa my face. We used tissue paper, painted with liquid latex. As we dried it (with a blow-dryer), we sort of scrunched it into folds of "skin" and wrinkles, then added make-up over that. It was inexpensive, creepy, and quite easy to build for each show with out irritating my 20-year-old facial skin (though I did shave because OW the peeling off).

Good luck with your experimentation!

That's pretty much exactly what I'm doing with the Elmer's glue and tissue paper!

The scar that I want isn't a burn/puckery scar, though. It's a single, long cut that's been sloppily stitched together. So the 3D glycerin stuff from Mehron looked fantastic, but totally didn't match my skin tone. If the glue/tissue paper takes the body make-up, I'm going to try building the scar with the glycerin, then putting a light layer of tissue and glue on top of that, then covering it with the body makeup.

Holy crap, M. All I did was write the damned things. I feel a little guilty now.

Guilty and filled with glee.

Guilt and glee...not a bad combination.

Lookin' at the Stiller ad and saying "don't mess it up, don't mess it up..."
5:1 they'll add a dumb romance subplot that will figure in the resolution. (All you need to be happy is the love of a good woman!)
The sad thing is that Ben Stiller has done great stuff. Have you ever seen The Ben Stiller Show, back when he was on TV? It's fantastic.

Ugh. Got to hit the gym myself. But it's so much easier to sit around in my jammies waiting for calls...
